Casing layer not getting colonized
    #2629049 - 05/02/04 09:45 PM (14 years, 27 days ago)

My friend put a casing layer of verm on his bulk straw grow about a 12 days ago, but only half of it has shown signs of colonization. He has put a light patch over the colinizing areas to give the other area more time, but the other half is still being stubborn. Should he just start initiating the light and fanning cycle, or wait untill the other half begins to colonize? Any ideas why the other half isnt colonizing? Thanks.

just go to fruiting
a casing layer does not need to be colonized for fruiting to happen
however, uneven colinization can be a sign of an uneven casing layer
i wouldn't worry though

I hope he doesnt have a contam...it smells fine though. How is one supposed to bring down the temps in a bulk grow to initiate pinning??

Taking it outta the incubator ...if you didnt incubate then take the top off and fan it some...also light will kick off the fruiting stage

Thanks for the tips, he decided he would just make room in his refridgerator and keep the whole rubbermaid in there over night.

If one whole side (a half -- left or right, top or bottom) isn't colonizing it's either slanted (uneven) or things weren't mixed right, or some contaminant was introduced there and got spread via water. If you mean only 50% of the casing has mycelium popping through, but it's evenly distributed throughout the surface it's just been more than enough time to pin.

Good night.
