Outside of Machias ME.

It's a port town and large timber lot with taxes at 80 dollars per year.

I will be heading up to start a camp in September. Although I won't be permanently living off grid as of yet. This will be a season process of building up my camp.

I will post pictures of the initial cabin and camp setup.

Cheers.

any idea of what kinds of trees grow on the land?  do you know when there was last a timber harvest?  what are your intentions for the trees?

Mostly hard wood. It was selectively cut a few years ago.

I am going to let it grow until I'm older. I would like to use the lumber for myself. I would like one property to be a nearly untouched sanctuary.

But then again, I am working hard to buy several properties in timber country. For the purpose of supplying the south with my own milled boards.

Have you thought about using clay for construction?  I dream of making a large outdoor oven out of clay.  I've also seen furniture and even buildings made with clay.

I could easily live without power or on solar/wind. Without high speed internet... hell no

isn't that just another addiction like alcohol, tobacco?

Actually I just turned down an offer to go camping in the Florida wilderness because I'd miss my washing machine.

My final setup turned out being an insulated Amish cabin with a large wood stove. Propane oven and cooking stove. Propane shower with pump and shower head.
. Propane refrigerator. There is phone service too, which is great. :hank:

Next spring I will be setting up solar power and combining it with propane. In this way, I can live relatively modern and still be away from population.
