What does/should unite America today?

I think a banner we can all believe in would help unify the nation.
Anymore, we don't agree on free speech, guns, race, religion, and so forth.
So what could we all believe in that is like glue?
What holds/could hold us us together as one nation?

Maybe we need to come to some kind of agreement or understanding about those things? I think that in the long run we probably will. Discussions and disagreements and even arguments about those things are maybe good in the long run.
I do think that there's a lot that everyone does agree about: free speech, freedom of religion, freedom of association, democracy, advocating and spreading these things throughout the world, being able to live a good life without fear of terrorism or mass violence or crime in general, locking up rapists and murderers, using LSD, camping and visiting national parks, going on road trips or hiking or biking. Lots of other stuff, too.
I think there's actually tons of stuff that (almost) everyone in America loves. It can maybe actually be easy to focus on the handful of issues that people disagree about, and to forget/ignore the huge number of issues that people agree on. Like, 9/11 happened in New York (one of the most liberal places in the nation), but all sorts of people from Texas and Alabama were willing to fight and even give their lives to make sure something like that never happened again. I think that's still true today, a terrorist or other attack against any of us is an attack against all of us. Almost no one in America wants other people to be killed by shit like that, or to be killed in general. Even if we have disagreements, I think most people actively want everyone else to be able to live a good life free from violence and crime.

Tax billionaires more so the rest of us pay less?
-------------------- I am in a minority on the shroomery, as I frequently defend the opposing side when they have a point about something or when my side make believes something about them. I also attack my side if I think they're wrong. People here get very confused by that and think it means I prefer the other side.

Well that's exactly the point, it's about having an even distribution of the wealth in a nation. If that's with more social services, so be it.
I really have a hard time to come up with reasons for a young person with 100k in student debt to embrace this nation with any degree of loyalty or unity.
When you sellout the middle class, there's very little chance for unity in my opinion.

If that’s what you guys want then I’d suggest not voting for a billionaire or defending their bullshit all of the time .

Just to be clear I'm definitely not advocating "an even distribution of wealth". Just something a little fairer than today.

Agreed. I was a Sanders fan last election (and the upcoming one).

I don't know, I didn't vote for Trump.
Do you remember when people were saying Obama was born in Kenya and his birth certificate was a big issue? I thought "My God, how can Republicans be so dumb as to believe something like that without any evidence?" Now I'm thinking the same about Democrats with the whole Trump-Russia collusion issue.
I guess both sides are similar.

In that one particular way which I think is pretty insignificant . Policy agendas seem to be completely opposite though . Is the fake Russia investigation affecting the working mans life more than than tax breaks for the rich ? I’m curious why you are so concerned about something that only affects trump , the Russia thing doesn’t affect my life one way or the other at all .

Both sides help the rich. Obama turned out to be a huge fucking disappointment... whether he was born in Kenya or not.

He was less disappointing than the guy before him though , I think you may have unrealistic expectations . The decisions made or not made by the guy before him had a huge affect on my life , it was epic , almost lost everything . Your really good at dodging questions I see . Do fake investigations affect our lives as much as policy decisions ? It’s yes or no . Oh but Obama is not part of the answer unless your voting for trump .

Actually, it was Bill Clinton that repealed Glass–Steagall. They all suck.

No. Neither a fake investigation on Trump-Russia collusion nor a fake investigation of a birth certificate have anything to do with policy, if that wasn't obvious.

Oh ya , that’s why bush signed the Dodd frank act . He took notice of the warning signs and decided to take action , almost forgot about that .

Obama passed Dodd Frank AFTER the collapse instead of reinstating Glass–Steagall which is what should have been done, but the bankers didn't want that.

Yes, just a better distribution. I'm fine with something to what it was like in the 1950's, 60's, 70's or 80's. I'm sure that type of distribution wouldn't fly today, must protect Billionaires!!!!
