    #2627863 - 05/02/04 02:19 PM (13 years, 27 days ago)

Hey all, wonderin around in the park and what did I see?!? Many tiny little mushrooms there be! No I have not eaten a one, and dont plan to untill you all are done.

Alright here are some pics, there wood based substrate like azures, Im taking spore prints now, Weather around here jumped from 40-50's (f) to about 75-80 within 3 days and as I was playing Basketball the wood chips near the court were flourishing with these! Id like to know what they are and what you guys can tell me about them... Im a noob to the hunting!

Thanks Again,
BLuEFroG

not galerina's... galernias have a caramel stem that matches their cap

A good heavy spore print will be very helpful in identifying these. When you have one, could you post a photo showing the color?

Psathyrella and Agrocybe are both reasonable guesses. I could also see Galerina or Pholiota for these. I'm sort of leaning towards something near Pholiota mutabilis, but that's very possibly because I've just been reading the monograph on Pholiotas and have Pholiotas on the brain.

Are any parts of the mushroom slimy or sticky (especially the cap surface)?

Incidentally, Psilygirl, don't rely on a caramel colored stem to identify Galerinas. While most Galerinas do have stems concolorous with the cap, not all do. Here's a photo I took last year of some Galerina autumnalis I found. All of the mushrooms in the photo (except the 3 near the Inocybe label) are Galerina autumnalis.

Note that it has a very nearly white stem. The Inocybes growing alongside them had darker stems, although their odor, fibrous cap surface, and less rusty spore color distinguished them fairly easily from the Galerinas.

Happy mushrooming!

the photos are bad quality.
They sure look like a psilocybe
but probably arent.

does Psathyrella stain blue?
p.gracilis that is.

I thought it might have been ps cyan or azures
but i dont think its season yet

In the first picture the shrooms stain blue
the bottom three.
check out the one on the total right its stem and cap are blue and the gills are light brown.
not pink. (due to picture quality i presume)
also in the 1st pic the bottom left and bottom center shrooms caps stain blue

thats crazy, but if it aint bluing. WTF is it?

Dont know bout the prints if they are purple to brown they ps though
tan is just light brown so dont know if that would be considered as brown though.

and as you said the caps reminded you of sylvatica and semilanceata
... i think the stems are kinda like ps subaeruginosa
- white hollow stems (sometimes with brownish bases like in bm's specimens) staining blue with greyish streaks.

- the cap is the right brown and the middle bottom one in the 1st pic
has the center a fading brown/orange and the outside is normal brown.

so from these they gave me the impression they were active

definately not gallerina some have annular rings but the stems arent white, hollow with brownish bases and grey (maybe blue) on them.

... oh well nothing can be proven but BLuEFRoG keep an eye on them check out the 'bluing' or the spots that arent brown or white.
maybe try get some better pics or confirm any facts stated that are true so this shroom can be id-eed properly. Also what type of woodchips?
Oh yeah , where do you live ? Country/State/City
this shroom is confusing as all hell and if it is an active,
you WOULD regret it if you threw them away.

good luck on your quest for indentification!!..
peace
