Yes, but I believe there are organizations now that help people who are raised in Amish communities, or Scientology, or other cults... escape.

Sort of the hippy commune type, but not the cult type. Anyways, there was a lot of Amish. As in, I'd see Amish buggies every day.
One time an Amish guy cut a tree down, the tree fell on power lines (ironic), the dude electrocuted himself and died trying to get the tree off the lines. In doing so he somehow managed to cause a power surge. I remember the power surge vividly. I was playing XBOX (the first one) and light bulbs got bright and started popping. The TV straight made smoke. The XBOX just turned off. The dishwasher stopped running. My father was running around the house trying to figure out what the fuck to do. We go a day without power. Yay, living in the middle of nowhere.
The power company fixes the lines. We get a call. There's an investigation into this all. The Amish dude died, they can't really be held accountable because they are Amish. All of our shit is blown up and there are no repercussions. We can't get a cent out of them despite the obvious damages. I'm a nerd, so I took the XBOX apart, there was an easy fuse to repair on the PSU. So I managed to fix it for free. All the other stuff was fucked though.
That's just one story about the Amish I have. Fuck them!
This is just general small town shit taken to the extreme. I loved in a small town for a bit, and there was just a complete lack of interest in the future. High schoolers would go to bars and get served. Obviously pregnant women were taking shots while working as bartenders.
It was sad.

I as a highschooler drank at the bar just out of town all the time. People rode their quads, dirt bikes, horses there. So yes, I agree.

I used to live in a pretty small town... The bartender used to cook crack on the stove in the bar and sell it to people. It was brazenly out in the open.

15% of Amish leave when they can and don't go back. Somebody should study them.

Agree. And whoever does this studying should give me all the hand made straw hats they are planning on leaving behind. Those things are lit. Some good old handmade pious craftsmanship right there. I would grow many plants in the sun wearing said hats.

My gf was watching a show on TV that interviewed a bunch of former Amish people and scientology people... I think they have been "studied" to some degree...

Only the true free spirits and higher thinkers don’t come back from “Rumspringa” Because like you said. Everything they’ve known is back at community. So even if they do get to go out and get laid for once. There’s not really any incentive to stay out there without any support or knowledge. It’s much easier to go back to living like that.
It’s a real shame. It almost feels like you need to have a professional cult deprogrammer waiting for you when you get to come out for rumspringa. They could start actually ingratiating you into society. Introducing you to all the technology that you’ve literally had withheld from you so you would come back. If people understood the full implications of what their lifestyle was versus what they could have had. Most of them would be pissed and not want to return.

What was striking for me around the Amish people was how they all seemed to look almost exactly the same. And they would force all the men to have the same haircut. And the women were all heavily clothed in basically the same clothes, with hair covered. I imagined myself as one of them. The bus stopped and quite a few highschool age kids got on. I would have absolutely hated a life like that, and I can't imagine it. It is quite cruel I think. I'd like to see them integrate more and keep those horses in the fields, not on 20mile stretches of highway.

That is a statement of being humble.
You’re not supposed to care about your appearance. You’re supposed to service God. So nobody gets to have a nice haircut. No one gets to wear any nice clothes, or anything that somebody could complement. Because that would take you further away from God in their twisted view of it.
How sick is it that? You can’t wear a nice shirt because it would make other people go to hell. Seriously I agree with Enlil. Fuck the Amish.

Y'all think Trump will win? Honestly now. I'm aware of all the indictments. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if they amount to nothing.

I don’t think he’s gonna become president. But I think there is an option that has still inexplicably stayed open to him. Even though there has been multiple opportunities for him to no longer be eligible to hold office. Even though there have been judges that had that possibility right in front of them. He is still running for potus right now.
I think it’s almost just to stop some huge protest from happening. I think that’s cowardice. We need to just let those people protest and get arrested for trying to cause another insurrection. Because he should never be allowed to hold office again. He organized an armed violent insurrection. I cannot think of a better reason that somebody should never be allowed to hold any political power in my country again.

Can you imagine if Trump won, and one of the electors cast a Trump vote for Biden instead...
Heads would fuckin roll!
With all of the inflammatory language liberals are using nowadays, suggesting Trump intends to execute people, and anoint himself dictator of America... I can see them actually trying to justify doing it too..

Why would they have to justify utilizing one of the features of the electoral college system? Faithless electors have always existed in presidential elections, and in most states it is up to the elector who he or she votes for. Democrats need to use every tool available.
Just FYI, there were seven faithless electors in the 2016 election
Quote:
As a result of the seven successfully cast faithless votes, the Democratic Party nominee, Hillary Clinton, lost five of her pledged electors while the Republican Party nominee and then president-elect, Donald Trump, lost two.
