Sounds like 11 or 12 bucks an hour isn't enough...

SporeJunkie said: You have a lot of shit to take into account. Around here $15 an hour is more than a living wage. If you get 11 or 12 anywhere then you could be doing worse. These large corporations are pushing for this minimum wage because they can pay it and smaller business can’t. They shouldn’t have to though. Maybe people should try harder and work to get a better job instead of wanting 15 an hour from McDonald’s. You may act like these small businesses are just careless fucks who don’t give a damn about their employees but that’s just not true.
Have you ever been up in the hills of Virginia or Tennessee? I have…a lot. Here now. I don’t see an Amazon or shit else like that around here. There’s a lot of mom and pop shops though that employees are happy to work for and make plenty money for their needs. What happens when those places close due to a minimum wage they can’t pay? What are you going to do for the people that lose those jobs and can’t feed their families anymore? Are you going to open an Apple store for them down in the holler?
Maybe employees of small businesses could have their wages supplemented, therefore keeping their employment and the small businesses can survive.

Yeah I get that. I guess it just leaves a sour taste in my mouth after living in a place for nearly 30 years and knowing if I weren’t as lucky as I am, I wouldn’t be able to afford a decent place to live. All because wealthy people decided they wanted to take over.

I find it interesting that you seem to blame people making 15$ an hour more than the landlords that are robbing you blind.

I'm having a really hard time wrapping my head around how there is such overt and deeply held racism amongst members of a space that is fundamentally in respect and celebration of what i understand to be an ancient humanity-inducing and grounding medicine of the (symbolic) heart.
I'm not going to engage otherwise what is obviously a trap, other than to say you should really consider what the word "dominant" means, and take a step back from your myopic perspective and look at the bigger picture. You know you're coming from a racist and likely bad-faith position, you said it yourself.
I hope you find can peace and reconciliation w/ yrself and others.

Gentrification is always very unpopular among the people who lived there before. They get priced right out of their own towns and neighborhoods.

My wife and I got gentrified out of our neighborhood. We paid $1k a month rent, the owner said decided to sell and wanted $365k. To mortgage that we would spend double our rent but then would be responsible for all the maintenance. The roof leaked and the ceiling had collapsed while I was away on business three months before the sale. The building sold on cash before we had moved out.
Ultimately we bought a house across town in a less trendy area and pay the same $1k we spent renting, of course this house was completely renovated with four bedrooms, an office, and a detached garage. I can see downtown from my yard, which is the same as before.
The cool thing? We got gentrified but many others did too. We just refinanced and our home has gained 40% value in four years.
That said, I understand many don't get the opportunity to buy. Gentrification is one of those things. It certainly hurts the less wealthy up front.

Touché. I guess I blame both honestly. The landlords are fucks too. If the people that moved here weren’t such ass holes I wouldn’t mind them as much. They act like they run the place and they can’t stay in their fucking lane. I get run into the ditch about everyday by some douche from Ohio. And luckily I’m in a position where I don’t have to worry about it. I rent the house I grew up in from my parents.

Personally, I find it hard to assign blame equally between someone who works every day and finally got the opportunity to buy, and someone who's entire existence is based around taking 30% of the first guy's paycheck and then paying 90% of it to a bank.
Essentially, the second guy is the most expensive mail forwarding service ever.

Making money and moving somewhere isn't really offensive. It does get annoying when the entire landscape gets changed.
My favorite part about going back to where we got gentrified out of is how all the rich people dress like hipsters, meanwhile the artists and creative class had been forced out a decade before they arrived. The middle class gentrified the creative class out before the upper middle class ever got there. The upper middle class moved into the "hipster" neighborhood not realizing that the area was basically just families and working class folk, but now feel the need to dress like hipsters because seemingly they think that's where they live.
It's all a fun little game of role play.

Voting rights bill is dead.
https://newrepublic.com/article/162974/democrats-voting-rights-bill-dead
So let’s check up and see where the Biden administration stacks up against the Biden campaign.
$2,000 checks? No Public option? No Address climate change? No $15 min wage? No Deal with border crisis? No Voting rights act? No Gun control? No Paid family medical leave? No
Honestly where do the democrats go from here? They refuse to do anything about the filibuster and Biden isn’t pushing Senate Dems to passing his agenda, so why should people even turn out in the midterms? They have to actually do SOMETHING, just one of those things and they could coast on it for the next couple years. But all we’re gonna get is some watered down infrastructure deal that amounts to little more than a series of corporate handouts and subsidies.

How did you come to that conclusion? First thing he did was re-commit to the Paris Agreement.
Have you had a look through this statement?
Those initiatives make good sense. Government's job is to set the right conditions for business and it's obvious that is happening.

There's a bit of a, let's say, disparity in how the Democrats are addressing climate change and how the climate is addressing humanity at this point.
Infrastructure is making promising noises, though.

Rejoining the paris climate agreement does fuck all, that’s why it happened.
“Hey he signed the piece of paper just like Obama did.” Oh wow that’s phenomenal I guess we’re good.
You know, I thought about adding the word “meaningfully” before the term climate change and then I decided that nobody on this forum is stupid enough to believe that writing “I promise to do better” on a piece of paper would be considered addressing climate change, and yet
