Gas $150 month
Misc car repair $75 month

Is there a  way to transport a person for less than $525 month?

Well that depends, are you forgetting how vast America and Canada are?

But seriously the original argument was increasing price of gas would increase the cost of living, especially to the poor. And that user advocated keeping it expensive, which i said would hurt poor people

Why do conservatives only feel empathy for multinational petroleum companies?

We already told you that the cost of production won’t change the price of oil anyways

Will The Low Oil Price Dent The Prospects For Renewables?

High oil prices actually help bring about more renewable energy sources and products.  When oil prices are high, demand for electric or hybrid cars goes up
which tells manufacturers to make more and better high efficiency vehicles
which lead to more advancements in the field which lead to it being cheaper
which lead to them being used and purchased more widely.

There will never be a mass roll out of alternate resourced power.  It will be a gradual change

And you think this wont hurt poor people how?

I'm sympathetic to people that struggle but also know that that isn't a reason to not move forward

Canadians would be much better off with high oil prices anyways. $50 a barrel is barely profitable for Canadian producers.

I don’t think he advocated for that. Nobody has the power to control prices anyways, except for major producers conspiring to control prices and that isn’t even very effective anymore.

Sure, but the supply is limited by choice, not the existence or non existence of a pipeline.

Alberta produces the worst crude the world has ever seen. It’s a shame Canada hasn’t put the brakes on it yet.

Until this thread, had no idea how dirty Canada's oil was.  That red maple leaf is good PR.

Supply is how producers control the price. Oil producers generally don’t have problems meeting demand.

It’s the same shit we have in the upper Midwest. The cost of production is much higher than the real stuff. A lot of the cheap oil has already been extracted and we are starting to rely on more and more expensive. Saudis are just going to pump the shit out until they run dry.

Sanctions or the threat thereof definitely affect oil prices more than most think.

The Saudis are worse than Mexican drug cartels in violence and general oppression, shame that we even give them business.

A few thoughts before i sign off:

1. Its good for Canadian jobs and the Canadian economy

2. It MAY lead to increased costs because less oil is getting to American refineries, at more cost

3. Its undoubtedly worse for the environment because it puts excess pressure on existing pipelines and leads to more oil shipments by rail or truck which are definitely worse for the environment

4. No matter what anyone says, at the moment, and in the distant future we are definitely still heavily reliant on oil. So why not ship it in the most cost effective and most environmentally friendly way?

What makes it so much worse than other oil supplies is that its filled with sand and clay and other earth debris

It’s probably not worse than that, but it’s definitely worse than traditional oil that you just suck out of the ground through a hole.

Right, now its easier for business men to leave and do business in countries with less taxes. But besides, this isnt about enlils fairytale, its about the objective reality that oil is absolutely needed right now, and increasing its production costs increases the costs of everything.  How many items can you think of that didn't arrive to a store on a truck?

How would raising taxes on the rich increase the actual cost to produce oil?

He doesn't like the idea that we can redistribute wealth to compensate for the disparate impact of transitioning to greener technologies upon the poor.  I mean, it's only fair since almost all wealth in this nation has been made by the exploitation of cheap and environmentally unfriendly energy.
