Bad idea... the way to keep them sterile is to keep them closed.

i mean while they are closed, so that some of the h2o2 goes thru the lid onto the dry verm, and if contams get in they will be where the h2o2 could land also? explaining myself kind of made that sound a bit pointless and unefficient

Butternut squash are softer than acorn or other types of squash, which makes them easier to cut and prepare.

Even though the water has h2o2 in it,the fact remains that it is water. The whole idea of the dry verm layer hinges on the fact that it is vermiculite ,which contams dont have a particular taste for,and the fact that it is devoid of any moisture. If you get it wet it will start to actually act as a wick to give contams an avenue right down to the substrate. If you want to add an extra layer of protection put some coffee filters or tyvek over the lid and secure it with a rubber band. I dont suppose that ,if you wanted to,it would hurt anything to lightly mist the top of the filters. I must stress "lightly" though, you dont want them to be wet either. Personally I believe that if you sterilize properly and use good technique when innoculating, you should have a minimum contam rate. GOOD LUCK!!

MYKEY

yea see it was 2 in the morning when i did this, and i think when boiling the jars i turned the heat too high and the water started boiling and im not sure but i think water got into the jars... they all look wet and it looks like theres mushy flour in the bottom of allt he jars so im pretty sure every single one is not going to work (its only been 2 days since i made the jars)

so yesterday and again today i made a karo jar (nuked it in microwave for a few minutes) cooled it and quickly put some spores into it... i have 4 ccs of spores left, and im hoping i wont need them if the karo jars work.

If i dont see any growth in my jars by saturday im going to dump them and start them over while being extra carefull this time... i was in a hurry to get them done this saturday.

hopefull i wont need to tho
