first little batch going in the jar. it smells like turkish royals

was aiming for merican sprerit went a little dark. just had a first cigarette, nice and strong but not overbearing, very sweet, slightly nutty flavor, - reminds me of some european shag ive had but not spicy or smoky
makes the commercial shit taste like chlorine. i think i can smoke this everyday

compared with mercan sprert (at bottom)

wow ok i figured it out. you guys are on your own

the row of 4 at the top of this pic with the round rippled leaves, these are the ones you want for smoking

if youre trying to make cigarettes, all the other shit is garbage. the round wrinkly ones are nice and thin and they cure very easily to a sweet yellow delicious. the only problem is i fucked it all up, mixed everything they were never labelled properly and they all got hacked down before realizing so they wont go to seed now we have to cherry pick them out of the heap. i think they are darel's_wild_1 if anybody is paying attention. does anybody recognize this cultivar, is it burley?

comparison, cigarette (burley?) tobakko at right

counter clockwise from top right:
2nd cut (burley?) vs. 1st cut vs. mramrikim spitire

rustics salve with poplar buds, several artemisia and mentha species and wrightii flowers. slow cooked for a few days causing wicked thoughts the whole time. just got to find a girl who wants to rub this shit on her pussy

Damn dude this looks like nice baccy.
I have only ever grown Turkish varieties, dried and cured up pretty well.
Definitely no expert.

I've grown a bit of rustica and tabaccum, always wanted to try some of the other native species like longiflora and attenuata.

That looks like some well cured leaf Muncher, good job on that. I've only had okay success with sun curing, though I haven't tried many other techniques. Are you keeping your jars in a kiln, and how often do you burp them?

thanks guys. i harvested from the bottom of the plants upward as they started to yellow, 2 or 4 leaves per plant  every week or two, spreading them out in a mat in full sun 2 or 4 leaves thick, overlapping, up off the ground as high as possible, flipping the leaves over and rotating as often as possible, rinsed and rehydrated often, keeping the oldest leaves on the bottom , and the driest leaves rotated into the middle, wettest on top.
at this point you have to be vigilant about mold and ensure as much airflow as possible.
after a month or two the weather went to shit so the whole leaves were put into the oven on lowest setting door cracked off and on about 2 days (smokehouse did not get finished in time), soaked in cold water, hung in the wind for a day, then into large glass jars and sweated in front of a space heater on and off for about a week, then it was rinsed, soaked and cut, removing stems and put back in the jars to sweat for another week. the jars were burped daily, and allowed to air out whenever water droplets started to condense on the glass.

its an ongoing project, i have been letting the last harvests dry down slow at ambient temperatures and the ones that havnt molded have seem to yellow out just fine. going with the oven tek again soon i already smoked all the good shit damnit.

i can send you a bunch of seeds if you want

I'm currently growing Turkish tobacco (Xanthi). But I also have seeds of Nicotiana rustica.
N. rustica is probably too potent to use as is, but lately I'v been reading up on cotinine, the primary metabolite of nicotine. Apparently it has all the beneficial effects of nicotine without the negatives, it is said to be a nootropic, and the pharma industry once considered marketing cotinine fumerate as an antidepressant.

Cotinine can be prepared by oxidising nicotine with H2O2. According to a paper on cotinine, you can take tobacco leaves with high nicotine content, treat the leaves with 3% peroxide solution and the bulk (>80%) of the nicotine will be converted to cotinine.
Maybe it would be a good idea to try this with Nicotiana rustica leaves?

Do you have a particular smoke you enjoy the most outside of N. tabacum and rustica?

havnt tried any of the others yet. so far just using them for reclamating poisoned land via hypervascular pollinator guerilla gardens. some of them are really potent when you handle them your fingers tingle and your lips get kinda numb makes you twitch and pee
