Tobacco growers thread? 6

Is there a tobacco growers thread?? I'm currently growing a full heirloom varietal from the appalachian mountains, super small leaf varietal but the best I've ever smoked when I grew it before. Never got much bigger then the size of a business card in terms of leafage.
One and a half months old.

Those are 45 days old? They look hella small! I didn't realize tobacco took so long!

It doesn't, only this heirloom varietal does! It's the best most calming spiritual tobacco I've ever smoked!

I have a couple varieties of tobacco seed I tagged along with some cactus seeds I ordered, but I don't plan on sowing them until I have an outdoor space to grow them-- looking forward to it though!

Ive been thinking about growing my own tobacco for a little while now. Is this your first time growing? And do you know what the name of that heirloom variety is??

The first month they didn't have enough light - I'd say if I had light on them from the start it would be about 3 months to 4 months tops from seed to harvest.
Don't have a name, just a location: Appalachian Heirloom Varietal is what I was told. I've grown them once before all the way out and they barely resemble most other big leaf tobacco plants at all.

Most indeededly! I've been looking in to the varieties available, but with so many the choice is difficult. You've inspired me to go heirloom though, and of course I gotta breed my stock. Interesting to see where this goes.

I'd start with nicotina rustica for a big yielder, then move towards the heirloom varietals for that esoteric stuff you just can't get anywhere online or elsewhere.
If anyone wants seeds of a cool heirloom varietal like this, I have seeds that have a 90% germination rate, go ahead and PM me!

I read that the rusticas a bit of a harsh smoke I was also reading about how the nicotina rustica's higher nicotine content can be used as a pesticide, but I'm more interested in the ceremonial smoking of it.

Yeah mapacho has a rough smoke, but is very tasty and strong and spiritual actually. I still vastly prefer the genetics I have.
Here's the update - just took all the plants to hangtown halloween ball and they are getting the energy and well traveled! getting there 8th leafs!

I have been growing this variety of tobacco for several years, it is a Turkish type called 'Bafra'. Plants grow to four to six feet tall with tongue shaped leaves. Leaves dry to a rusty red/brown color and smoke real smooth and light, very pleasant.

I don't smoke although I do use the leaves in the rest of my garden as a pesticide/general compost. Just the boring tabacum var West Virginia, I did get a hold of some rustica but I suspect by the flowers that they're simply tabacum also.
During a relocation I dumped some plants into my bamboo pots and 100% neglected them yet they thrived better than any other, the taller one here is about seven feet tall.

Nice turtle hermit! Yeah I'm excited for my babys to keep on growing! They'll be outside in a greenhouse in a month or so, and hopefully get nice and tall and strong and big. This varietal I have is such a slow grower though compared to nicotina rustica I grew, like crazy slow.

Within the last week I got some Rustica seeds to germinate! Theyre mostly an experiment for safe handling practice since i usually avoid tobacco, but the intensity of experience reports of handling it without PPE or drug tolerance have finally made me crack and gain interest.

I would use the leaves to roll spliffs with, so tiny cigars yes. That was a beautiful experience.

Just posting an update. One month later, and they are doing great! Just about ready to be transplanted into their final pots. Still deciding whether to put them rootbound outside in a greenhouse over winter, or invest in a small grow tent inside and do them all under LEDs. Just about two to three weeks away from that.
Theyre doing great under a super cheap 20$ led light.

those look very nice. i found some wild tobacco in the bottom of a canyon by a hot spring in the desert last summer
never got the chance to go back for seeds. maybe someday. grew tobacco every year the last few years, tried a bunch of different species and strains. i grew some from the hopi nation, i think those are my favorite so far. maybe ill contribute some to this this year
