Colonization or rye grain opening?

My buddy has recently purchased a sterilized rye grain spawn bag, this is his first time attempting to cultivate and is having questions, he wiped the injection port and the micron filter with 70% iso. He heated the needle until it was red hot and then wiped down the needle with a alcohol wipe also. He shook up the syringe to break up the spores, he injected 4 cc of spore liquid into the injection port and placed in a walk-in closet with a heater that is running at 80 degrees, it’s been 3 days now and he is starting to see the rye grain split open in some places and turn white, is that the beginning of the colonization or is the rye grain sprouting? If you have any questions feel free to ask and I will reply ASAP, thank you.

Those are just bursted grains. Don’t wipe the needle after flame sterilization. 4cc is too much, you need more like half CC. 80 degrees is a little over kill. 72 degrees would be just fine.

Do you think that there is still a possibility of colonization and I should keep waiting or should I just throw the bag away now and try it again?

Just wait it out, it takes a while sometimes for stuff to start growing, just be patient. By putting that much spore solution in you risk throwing off moisture levels which can make it extra wet which can cause issues. I would also turn the heater off unless it starts getting real cold. I try to keep my room at like 70-74 ish
