Keep for a few more days or toss now?
    #26256305 - 10/16/19 04:23 PM (1 year, 4 months ago)

I could use some advice.  I have 4 tubs of APE on the 3d flush.  All tubs have pins, 2 tubs have fat 3" fruits along with other smaller fruits.

When I mist the tubs, one of them emits a slight smell of mold the rest smell as they should.  The tub with mold smell has about 20 big to medium fruits and many pins.  I kind of want to wait on the moldy smelling tub to let things get larger but intuition tells me to toss.  Production has been crazy good on these so not desperate to keep just want to learn what's correct.

Also, I would dry the fruits in a dehydrator but wondering if there is any problem with dehydrating and keeping the fruits from that tub or should I just get rid of the tub, shrooms and all.

I have have some grain jars finishing and some plates in another room but no newly spawned projects around the area which could contam as a result of any airborne mold spores.

As always, your suggestions are appreciated.

It's going to be hard to diagnose without pictures.

If it ends up going moldy you should be fine with proper dehydration, but it's always recommended to turn questionable fruits into tea.

looks like they're about done anyway. Nice tubs by the way. I'd just harvest when you want to. You can't see any mold? I don't trip on a little mold any more. If something is straight up starting to sporulate i'll throw it in the garage.

A little mold can still be deadly. Personally, I'd avoid fruiting jars if any contams are present.

Bacteria contams, if very small in size, smaller than grain of rice, might not impact your fruits.

But mold sporulates, which could spread mycotoxins invisibly onto your fruiting bodies.

You can wait for the end of the flush if you want. If the fruits look healthy they're fine.

Keep in mind the amount airborne spores released from the tub while it's just sitting there is going to be insignificant compared to the massive amount released when you actually empty the tub.

Thanks for replies,  Shaper, Verum, I would have posted a pic but there is no visible mold on the sub .. but I can smell it when misted tho.  Fruits look normal other than few mutations that I have seen in late flushes before.  I put the tub in an isolated area and will let it go a few more days or until the mold takes over, dump it outside like always, to not release indoors.

I forgot I added first flush APE pics to my signature below, they are not from the current flush in question.  Got MS from a sponsor. 4 drops on 4 q tips to agar.

I did 4) 27 QT tubs - each with 2.7 QT WBS to 4 QT CVG, late jiffy casing 1/2 inch and frequent misting - with 10.4 QT WBS yield 23 dry zips so far.

Psyched for new projects, South African Trans and PE clone.

Grateful for Shroomery.  SJB

I looked into the mold thing.

First I've ever heard of this, but he isn't wrong about spores being carriers of mycotoxins.

I still wouldn't worry about airbourne mycotoxins invading your food/mush though and will add that all the worst mycotoxins are present in many foods we eat every day, as well as the grain spawn we grow cubes on.

There's very few that we need to worry about, if we see it on our grow it was already in the house anyway.
Some mushrooms are far worse then molds
