Question regard The Shroomery news forum...

What is it that allows a post made in the news forum able to accumulate such numerous and instantaneous views immediately upon posting?
I've noticed it ever since posting there but never felt inclined to inquire into this matter until now. I'd assume that there is some kind of collating or curating system that has been attached to the shroomery under various profiles not connected particularly to someone who was an active member of this community...
Surely the administration here has a record of who it is that is accessing these threads autonomously but as a regular contributor to this community I find it interesting that someone would be able to set up something to access our postings so effortlessly.

I've noticed this too but I've never really investigated it in depth. Headlines from the News forum are automatically posted on our Twitter feed, and I always assumed the instantaneous hits came from bots automatically indexing new content on Twitter.

Thanks for the reply Ythan.
Your answer kind of surprises me. I would think if you didn't understand how people were accessing the site you might be concerned of a security risk...
Surely there would be some way for you to be able to decipher who is creating these views...

I know you can see what threads and or forms are being browsed, can you not pinpoint the users that are in these forums?

Sure, we keep log files and I've thought about digging down and getting referrer information to satisfy my curiosity. I still might, but like I said, I assume it's just web spiders which are automatically generating the views. It's a public forum and we intentionally share links to those posts on Twitter so I'm not surprised they receive traffic - that's kind of the idea. what sort of security threat are you concerned about?

I'm not overly concerned with anything nor am I well-versed enough in technology to pinpoint any specific threat. Given some of the recent tribulations we have suffered from outside influences I would think it might be important to have a firmer grasp on various access points to the site...
Don't feel the need to reply as I know you are busy making sure we all have a safe home. Thank you for your efforts on my behalf...

Simply accessing the site isn't really a risk. Anyone is free to sign up for an account and snoop the entire place out. As far as I know it literally couldn't pose a risk.

I wonder how it would work though...
Do these views accumulate instantaneously because profiles have been set up and left logged in constantly refreshing the news forum?

Seems doubtful.
It's a public forum, no need for an account.
It's most likely because they get posted to Twitter, tweets get seen so many times by so many different things, bots and people, so quick.
There's a little tool, I guess you'd call it, on the internet somewhere that shows you how fast tweets get around and how big the audience gets in such a short time, it's almost unbelievable.

I don't think you need a profile for the view count to increase. Like, if you visit a thread not logged in your view still counts.

How would "they" monitor activities on the site and be able to register a view so instantly?

To be fair there's a lot of people who lurk cultivation and the like without ever making an account because they're too paranoid
