ID help please UK
    #26253126 - 10/15/19 07:53 AM (1 year, 6 months ago)

Found these in a field full of horse dung south west of England near the New Forest. Really wet after several days rain. The stems are different lengths but on average 3/4 cm, the heads 0.5cm to 2 cm. The gills are dark.  Any help identifying would be much appreciated!

Psilocybe species, I'm thinking they look untypical for liberty caps, not only because of the missing papilla, but
also for the obvious lack of striation in the caps.

Do you have a chance to get back into that field and take some in situ pictures? Full of horse dung indicates these
just might like to grow on well-decayed manure, which in turn might lead us toward one of the rarer cousins of
the liberty cap.

Can you take some good gill shots, preferably of multiple specimens, in good lighting?
Could you perhaps also check thoroughly for any blue bruising?

What is your reason for saying that? I won't conlude what they are, but I lean towards Psilocybe for the majority of them.
More information is needed. Some might be a Deconica species, but we'll need better pictures.

I agree with Psilocybe as a likely genus for most of these specimens.

Thank you for your help.
I can't get back to the field for a couple of days unfortunately. I do remember that they were not obviously growing directly on dung and were more in the nearby grass, but there was so many piles of dung in the field I guess it must spread everywhere anyway. I can't find any blue bruising at all, not a good sign I guess? Here's some photos of the gills.
Thanks again!

It has no characteristics of a psilocybe species. And I just know its not the type he seeks

Some of them, possibly. But I don't think all are the same species.

I see several that certainly have. But more information and in situ pictures would help.

I wouldn't say it looks like a Psilocybe if I didn't think it possibly could be.
In this case, if it's one of the rarer species, the "magic" comes in second.
I think, however, that the OP knows already these aren't to be consumed, but
maybe they'll interest someone with a microscope.

Because I think it looks like one, and I'm asking the OP for more information and pictures to be better able to either dismiss or verify my suspicions.

^^These are all liberty caps, the dark caps are due to humidity, they'll dry to a buff color.

No, P. semiglobata is not hygrophanous, and many of these specimens clearly are
