Cactus ID * 1
    #26251466 - 10/14/19 12:13 PM (1 year, 4 months ago)

I purchased this at the local hardware store.  Any idea what kind it is?

Thanks in advance.  I'm hoping to find a true San Pedro at some point.

Go to world seed supply.  They have trich seeds galore.  Hybrids, pedro, torch, all sorts.  Maybe even some seedlings as well.

Sorta looks myrtle but I've never grown that.  Not sure if myrtle can cross with pedro.  Kinda loks like the two, or something I have no idea.

I think Myrtle is correct.  It's wavy between the spines which I think is an indication?  I'm obviously new at this.

There's around 70 types of cactus with mescaline.  I read myrtle is active but most people aay it's not.  Even among known actives some are inactive.

People use myrtle to graft peyote.

Looks like a PC San Pedro. Should be active but are typically weaker than the non-PC ones.

Quote:

"PC" means the "Predominant Cultivar" or "Predominant Clone" of the columnar cactus Trichocereus pachanoi, one of several related species commonly referred to as "San Pedro cactus". It is the most common variety of T. pachanoi found all over the United States, particularly in the Southwest, where numerous cactus nurseries have been cloning this strain for decades. This strain is self-sterile, and can only be propagated by cuttings. The cuttings are prolific and found everywhere. Possibly due to years of cloning in its non-native habitat, this strain has become "weak" to "inactive". Therefore some people jokingly call it "Pachanot" (even though it is probably just a strain of T. pachanoi).
