I've had multiple pets after my first childhood dog and I think one of the hardest parts is seeing them expectantly waiting for their buddy to come home but they aren't coming home.
But helping them deal with it helps me with my own grief.
Right now I have old Meat and 2 cats and they hang out with my mom's dog Booker. Meat is 14 now and I know his time is coming but the vet says he's in good health for a dog his age and that makes me happy. His eyesight and hearing are going but he seems oblivious to the problem. His buddy, a lab mix named Teddy Bear had pain and anxiety and failing health for years and it was really rough to watch.

The moral responsibility lasts long after they are gone. Wishing them safe journey.
I never made the decision to put a dog down but sometimes I Feel easier about the idea. I know after my current dog is gone, it's the end if a fairly big era in my life. My first dog was grade 5 to age 24. That's a lot of different phases of life. Got my current dog 2 days after turning 30. So I should be about 45 or so when he's gone.
I worry about the situation when I habe no family living and having a dog. Say I need surgery or die, that's a big wieght. Cause if I get a dog at 45 or so, I could be 60 when they pass. Just nut's to think about.
After my mom passes I won't have family to count on. My sisters are about worthless. They'll probably try to shove me in a home and steal my inheritance. They usually did fuck me over growing up.
