I confess! to being total noob, knowing I'd be posting this thread soon, but not before first grow even... lol

Last night I went thru my sterile tek rehearsal, excited and hesitant about the AA75x and when it comes to unload time. I ran test at 21 psi for one hour (wanted to sort my temp dial, 8 gets it done right) and just put a dozen empty qt jars with some autoclave tape inside a few of them, as well outside, to get my feel good on.

This morning I went to see what vacuum would be like, not bad at all after that 18hr cool down in place. Then I unloaded jars and much to our dismay, we found the 3 with tape inside jar were not indicating sterile!  wtf? fear, uncertainty, doubt starts taking over...

until I went to remove tape from inside jars, things were friggin vacuum sealed... huh?

oh....
:epicfacepalm:

problem was I failed to flip the lid on all of them (so seal side was down, as for canning and no holes drilled yet, not wanting to use metal lids anyways). Sterile indicator tape showed good on outer pieces, obviously.. but tape inside the 3 jars with it were all unchanged, maybe a slight yellowing lines, but not black for sure.

blew my mind, like 259F/21PSI for an hour yet inside a sealed jar temp obviously did not hit 250 at all...

:mushroomtwirl: what a great test, verified how trapped air will fail your PC sterilizing efforts, for sure.

and yah... confession is good for the soul!  :bearbreakdance:

I confess. I have a 5-year-old cat named Maga (magician en español). Sometimes I feel like he's definitely upset about that now.

Also, eggscuffle.

I confess. I only watch football cause this time of year I get the shakes from basketball withdrawl. Tried to watch soccer once... 3 hours for the score to be 0-0? :wtfno:. I'd rather watch golf. Hell I'd rather watch my mushrooms grow.

Theyre relatively common but are long lived perennial mushrooms, each band represents a year of growth.. There are other faster growing ganoderma species with more research to back up the claims of medicinal properties than G applanatum. Although it being a ganoderma its very likely it produces novel triterpinoids and other cool chemical compounds.

If you do decide to harvest, do so knowing it might be another 20 years before you can harvest the same area again.

good looking out. if memory serves I tried sawing a chunk off of one while it was still attached to the tree and the rest survived fine.

I find a well placed judo chop to be the best way to harvest appalatum. Just hit it hard with a hammer fist as close to the tree as you can it will pop right off. And don't feel bad harvesting them. In my area it is everywhere. I have harvested probably 30# this summer. Hell if you just want to try it out I got a tincture that's close to ready ill send you a bottle just PM me your address. But my hippy dippy self believes it's best to find them in your area and make your own tinctures.

Try lighting up a dried Ganoderma. They burn like incense. Has a distinct smell

It is common in my area too. That doesnt change the fact they will live for 50+ years and take a long time to reproduce. Thats the same kind of attitude that lead us into the issues with deforestation we have today. “Theyre everywhere just take as many as you want”. I didnt suggest against harvesting them just to be concious of their life cycle and ecology and do so respectfully. 30# does seem excessive though, especially when there is no proof it actually does anything beneficial medicinally. But you do you, I’m just sharing knowledge so ignore it or take it and do with it whatever you will

I confess that sometimes I get too confident when doing flowhood/SAB work and always pay for it.  Have to remind myself to stick to best practices and you will get good results.  No cutting corners.

Glad to have a hobby that teaches some life lessons.
