I built a FH mostly for bags, was hard to have good form in a SAB, but I love every second of every process and feel lucky to even be able to grow, not everyone can. Every one is different though, just my opinion.
I don't hate pouring plates. I enjoy pouring plates. I hate the process of running agar in general because it's tedious and time consuming to wrap PP's, weigh out agar/LME, boil sticks for slants, etc. My ADHD makes things get boring quick as my brain is constantly searching for something new to spike the chemical release. That's why mycology is such an interesting thing to me, because there's a million steps, each with a multitude of variations for different results. But I've essentially "solved" making PP's and boiling agar, so it's not enjoyable for me.
I run bags and pour plates in SAB and am still quite happy with my myco pursuits, otherwise I'd move onto something else.

Hi mushroom gods. Is there anything in this bag that looks concerning? If not how much more growth should I wait to see before I shake the bag? Appreciate all your comments and advice!

Is that yellow sludge on the inside of the bag or out? If the former, it's very bacterial.

I don't think it'll survive a shake. Trying never killed anybody though. Definitely top fruit as opposed to spawning to bulk, if you make it that far.

Looking for best priced SFDs can anyone point me in the right direction?
Boogie that's awesome that you finally figured out your problem. I pulled the quarters of my rocker weight pretty much for that reason wasn't sure if my gauge was any good I think my PC is going on 8 years now and I've never did a lick of maintenance on it besides the wash she may or may not get once year.

If you're looking for a lot, go to FP. You can get 100 for like $0.60 each or so after shipping.

This was from a kit before I found this lovely community so I did not make spawn. If I should just throw it out (which appears to be the consensus) it is fine because since then I have begun working in agar.
That said could I potentially take any healthy looking growth on a grain and put that on agar or is the fact that it has existed in an environment with contaminants render it useless?
If I were just to shake it for shits and giggles would I just be adding (in this case Black Kow) to the bag it is in and putting it into fruiting conditions?
Thanks for all your advice! You are really helping this noob get into this hobby

Nah, you cud possibly take a tissue sample and clean it over several plates.
Adding substrate to the spawn bag wud be one way to "spawn" it i suppose.
