Your best and safest bet would be to mail them a spore print before you arrive and make a syringe/agar for them when you arrive. I can't imagine what's TSA agent would think of they found agar with growth on it...OMG he's carrying anthrax or something like that.

You could make agar wedges and bring them, they are a lot easier to conceal than petri dishes. I wouldn't worry about the TSA, I would be a bit concerned about customs in the destination country. I don't think they will search you very well if at all though.

I would just bring the spore print, they are super easy to hide, and legal - then you don't have to worry about the mail being slow.

TSA would likely not be a problem, especially if you pack your cultures in checked luggage. I'm unsure if agar plates count as "gels" for flight safety, but I suspect that they do. If I were hellbent on doing this, I'd probably take a box of lion's mane, shiitake and reishi cultures in plastic slant tubes, with a cube mixed in. If asked, I'm bringing gourmet mushroom cultures to share with a friend.
That said, in many countries, importing living cultures of fungi, bacteria, or even living plants is strictly forbidden. Such as in the US. Even if nobody found out about the species, you could be indicted for violating agricultural customs laws.
