2019 Arctic Sea Ice Minimum Tied for Second Lowest On Record

Where do you post this but here?

Id say politics is central to why this is happening.  So take heart.  Climate change is the biggest event in human history, and it's only going to get ever more and more intense.

All the sons of bitches are placing themselves firmly on the wrong side of this inevitable reckoning the human race is in for.  All the free marketeers a la Koch brothers S.O.B.s, the overindulgent out of touch so-called elite class gang of usurers, the shrieking religious right, the Donald Trumps, the Ted Cruz's, the Stephen Harpers, the Doug Fords...all of 'em.

Like the inevitable rising sun, a new dawn surely must come.  A new enlightenment.  People will look back on our time as a dark age.

Shit's gonna get real once 135F heatwaves start appearing, or the oceans start to die off massively, when they have to start a new category 6 classification of hurricane and that blows into town, people are going to get very scared and then they will wake up and change.

We are looking at perhaps 8F average warming by the end of this century if we stay on the present course, the course many of our present leaders are determined to take, and it just keeps going and going from there, until it is inevitably dealt with.

The world is in for a change that has never been seen before.  Issues are going to be forced.  Deeply held delusions are going to be dragged out into the light.  This is the biggest event in human history, universal in it's reach, and perhaps it won't be resolved in any of our lifetimes, but surely before the end of the next it will be, because there isn't much more time.

A couple hundred years goes by pretty quick.

Global warming could otherwise be described as "too much energy" in the system. Aren't we running out of energy though (oil and gas)?

I remain optimistic. With the development of technologies such as artificial intelligence for example, humanity could potentially harness this extra energy in the system, develop plastic eating bacteria for the oceans....etc etc. We could even use storms as an energy source (think tidal power X1000).

As with all things, balance is key. Denying climate change is a huge problem, and the emerging eco-fascist greens movement is also a problem.
As mycologists we have some responsibility for earths future I do believe. A big green movement is what we need (not the kind we have which is a power play and nothing to do with the environment)

OP used the phrase "until it is inevitably dealt with". There is really only one way this can happen, which is when the human race is wiped out or nearly so. Then the earth can very slowly start getting better.

My argument isn't against climate change. It's against hysteria-driven weather-based apocalyptical models used as narratives for political swing. According to Al Gore we were supposed to be under water years ago. It's not a surprise less and less people give a shit at this point. Are you surprised people are cynical, non-caring, and anti-activist on this topic, even with newer data? Have experts cried wolf one too many times?

But you're all for the hysteria-driven economic-based apocalyptical models used as narratives for political swing I bet. You know the ones where a carbon tax sends the world into recession because the fossil fuel industry's profits drop slightly.

Maybe the Arctic could borrow a couple feet of land ice from Montana.
They're going to have a little extra this weekend.

No. We have enough fossil fuels to power the planet for like 10 thousand years. Just in natural gas alone the US has enough to power itself for the next thousand years. Alternative forms of energy obviously need to be found, but currently solar and wind simply aren't enough to meet demands.

If they stopped the extreme rhetoric and had an honest conversation I'd listen. But it's always "the planet is dying" "you question climate science, therefore you're evil and a heretic." The Greta Thunbergs of the world will throw us in prison the first chance they get. The under 30 crowd has been, IMO, MK Ultrad.

Based on everything I've read it's likely we'll see a trend toward a cooling ice age (right now we're in a warming interglacial period) in the next few hundred years. What is happening is pretty much par for the course of cyclical climate change. While the North Pole's ice is melting, Antarctica's ice is growing. Unfortunately, we don't know enough about the climate to give definitive answers as to what is natural and unnatural climate change. And the worst part is "climate change" is being treated as if it is ALWAYS unnatural, which is obviously untrue.

Yes. You can't compare the ebbs and flows of a few hundred years to a few hundred million. The Earth has seen far worse in terms of climate change than what is currently being observed. And as humans we have enjoyed a cool and stable climate.

There is certainly not nearly enough fossil fuels for 10 thousand years of human expansion.  That just big oil lies.
