How many varieties at once?

How many different varieties/strains of mush do you deal with at once? How many agar plates to keep up that many?

My most I believe was like 17 I dont quite remember.. but I have had tons of clones and I run 3 plates to every 1 so you're talking 100s of transfers a week .. its alot to deal with get 3 that you really like .. I'd say a penis envy a regular brown cap cube and a luecistic cube and run those ..

That's a lot! 🤣 I have less than 10 diff types going, but my spore library has grown and it's so tempting to germ some new plates.

I tried to juggle 5 when I started. I had my 4 pack of syringes and a RW print. Now I run one at a time. Helps not needing to lable so much. I just put the date on the jar then the date on the box. And if it comes off I don't care cause fuck it.

Ha, that's exactly where I'm at. It's too much for me to handle. But I only have 2 of them printed, the rest in various stages of colonization. I want to complete grows of the other 3, print them, then I'll decide which 1 or 2 I'll focus on.

I have about 5 cubes with 2 clones along with another 3 pan cyans that I just started. Last time I had this much it got overwhelming fast. Currently I do 3 transfers per variety and it seems to be working good so far. Previously I tried to transfer and track every plate, but now I just pick the best of 3, use 3 quarters for a grain master or LI to 10 jars, then I use the remaining quarter to make 3 transfers to new plates. When I germ spores I swipe 4-5 plates and make 3 transfers total from the successful plates.

Funny that you ask, I recently got carried away with swabbing plates :rofl2: I swabbed 23 varieties in total

PE6, moby dick, menace, oak ridge, Malabar, PEU, RW, KSSS, TW, albino Cambo, pan cyan "Jamaica", amanita muscaria, some type of gym, galindoli, mexicana "jalisco", liberty caps, pan cintulus "Warren county", reishi, lions mane, yellow oyster, pearl oyster, king oyster, and an orange jelly fungus clone

I'm still waiting for about half of them to germinate on agar some I've been running for a little while just cleaning them up

I have 2 b+ cultures and 3 or 4 golden teacher cultures that i've been working since i started growing. Im expirimenting with exotics and some other cubensis varieties, but all of my g2g is done on one of those cultures i mentioned above. So to answer your question: I personally have 2 varieties, spread across 8 or so cultures, that im nurturing right now. On top of that i have 3 cubensis/panaeolus varieties across 5 or so cultures that will NOT be expanded, and will be fruited alone at 1 qt to find desirable genetics. After that, ill probably run the panaeolus and whichever cubensis is most visually appealing for a good while in rotation.

Just dont bite off more than you can chew, because youll end up wasting it. I've thrown out beautiful cultures just because i knew they would get neglected anyways.

You can always just transfer until you have the kind of growth you want, and leave it sit to fruit in vitro. Most of the TC's say this is a good way to isolate solid genes.
