Khat germination tips?

Hey guys :wave:

I imagine theres a good deal of advice in the khat growers blog, but im kind of intimidated to scroll through all of those pages atm :facepalm: (i know, i know). So a good buddy (youre awesome bro :heart: ) sent me a packet of some khat seeds and i gotta get em going! Idk if theyre still viable but i really wanna try as khat is a plant thats intruiged me for some time.

I took a few and put them in a wet paper towel similar to growing weed seed. Though theyre pretty small, i know this method really sucks w poppies and other plants. Should i try and plant them indoors first? My season is about to change, and i have no problem getting some stuff going indoor. Im honestly kind of into the idea of it. I bought a bunch of lighting and built a box for weed but i only got one grow in before I temporarily retired from growing bud. So the idea of getting some plants going is pretty damn sexy honestly.

Any advice is mucho appreciated, thanks girls and guys :heart:

I really dont remember so much details how i did sow mine.
I know i sowed them with "wing" up and one seed length into the soil.
I also didnt water so much, just kept the soil from drying out.
If you have good seeds they will germinate quite easily, at least mine did.

Thanks mate:heart: I’m going to try a few different methods and see if I get lucky. Just using about five seeds for each technique... I really just need a few plants anyway and from there I can hopefully clone them into moar. Super psyched about this! Thanks for the reply bro :super:

Plant wing down. Give some bottom heat humidity and they grow themselves.

We had a member offer them not too long ago so keep an eye out if he offers them again.

I planted wing down but I cant remeber the depth.

I used jiffy seed starting mix in six cell seed starting trays.


I squeezed them into a jiffy humidity dome and removed it once the hit the top/all sprouted good.

I didnt used a heat mat but it was mid summer when I planted I think.

Tbh i forgot all of that wing up / wing down stuff, I remember just sowing the seeds pretty regularly either immediately in the destination soil the main plant is in now, or i transplanted the seedling in a timely fashion.

Whether you should rais the seedlings indoors idk depends on how harsh your climate is.

I have a fairly drying air in my apartment, I use very well draining soil possibly even looser than for cactus at that young age.. I have it growing now in my cabinet where there is quite some light and it gets kinda warm and esp dry - i have to water it quite a lot but its a useful thing that the conditions tend to get dry.

Before this i tried rooting a few cuttings but failed. Idk how to not let the plant shrivel while it is rootless.

    Rigt on man, thank you. We have a pretty wet climate here,.... well, generally anyhow. Cool, if i get a dew going, i may split em up and try and do some both indoor and out. Im itching to get some of that lighting going again :evil2:

    Well it's not really a helpful tip but if the seeds aren't fresh you get little to no sprouts. But what I did was bury them with the seed wing just slightly sticking out of the soil. Try and start them during the hottest part of the season they love the heat to germinate just like ephedra. And keep the soil moist till they germinate. Start them in decent sized pots. They are drought tolerant because they burrow their roots down deep in search of water. After they sprout I would water when the surface dried out. But I stupidly put them in 2" pots so if I didn't water once a day they'd start to shrivel and some would die.

    Not quite sure. My experience comes from two different sources. One source I bought the seeds from said they where about 6 months old And I had like 20-30% germination this was someone who had a site who was selling for profit so honestly who knows how old they where. Another source I traded a plant to for seeds and he said he had just got them off his own plant in the last couple weeks. Those had nearly 100% germination. So I'd defianately say after about a 9 months yo a year I wouldn't expect a lot of sprouts.

    Ive gone through 1000s of khat seeds tried everything to germinate them, all failed. Then i bought a name brand seed company seed, i just sprinkled them on some damp coir with cling film on top. Every one grew and i didnt have enough room for them, even have one in my back garden in England fekin things dont wanna die.

    Lipa!

    Just cover the seed with no more than half an inch of soil and keep moist until germination. 2-3 weeks if seed is fresh.

    I tried seed starter mix and had no luck. Than I tried planting them in a sphagnum moss covered with a plastic bag and they germinated within 2 weeks.
