Thanks!
Why should a leaf still be attached? Is it because it is a sink whereas a scion is not sensed as one... and it creates more urgency for roots?
Other than that.. what are some "forgotten peyotes" / forgotten actives that some of you grow?

Well....maybe someone out there can chime in with a proper, more detailed response than myself.
Would have to say nutrients/energy being the top of the list though. Burying such a small cut without a leaf seems more like a death sentence, leaving the piece to just rot in the soil. At least with the leaf up above the dirt, theres still something absorbing light and CO2 (?).
Also, for practical reasons, the leaf becomes a helpful gauge to how the cut is doing under the soil. Maybe this isnylt the case 100% of the time. Havent had all that much experience propagating like this to say anything for certain really, but from the few handful of attempts has been the case.

Can anyone ID this cactus? The newly grown spines are not sharp at all and are quite flexible like they're made out of rubber.

My San Pedro cutting that my friend sent me about half a year ago is finally showing new growth!

Its taken so long for this, I didn't think it would even grow anything. In the photo above, I just recently planted in that pot. Before, it was out in the open, not in a planting pot in which it grew out new stuff.
So psyched its growing!

That is one sad sad cacti. I would let the soil dry out and then cut off that new growth. You could dry and root that piece. If you leave it, then if you ever put the cacti in the right conditions the tip will grow normal, but that other skinny part won't ever bulk up and be able to support new growth.
Are you trying to grow under a CFL or some type of LED. It seems like it needs at least 20X more light. Give him sunlight if you can

Not those. Those are the Santa Rita prickly pear.(Opuntia gosseliniana?) Got those in a trade last winter, and the pads have all fully rooted thru this summer, but I have seen no pups,or really any growth from these, other than fresh spines and the roots growing out of the bottom.Maybe it's because I've left them in the tiny pots used to root them? I was hoping to have them rooted and productive this year,so I could do some trading with some neighbors for their red, yellow, and purple fruit prickly pears.

My first cactus to flower, was quite a surprise. Any care tips would be greatly appreciated. I believe it's a cereus.
