First Grow - Feed Back Appreciated - Central FL
    #26202524 -

Starting off with rye berry grow bag kits as seems easier for first time grow. Eventually as I test these methods and gain a better understanding of mycology will move to advanced methods.

2 center bags dated 9/4 are getting close to mixing w/substrate phase. The other 4, I inoculated 9/12. I have 2 more bags which seem to be unsuccessful. (Not sure if I can re-inoculate the bags and try again, or if I should toss them in the yard because something went wrong)

I have read that during the fruiting stages ideal conditions call for a scheduled cycle with fluorescent lighting and temp of 60-81 degrees. Also instructions say the *more direct light source the better..Not sure how to interpret that..

Originally I wanted to split test some of the bags in direct sunlight on a window sill inside the house..Possibly do it on my pool deck also. It's usually very sunny most of the day here in FL as im sure most of you know.

They grow during the summer with hot temps and rain..Which is why I thought about doing that way.

So my main question is what experiences have you guys had testing natural lighting in warm temps if any..Should I just stick to a regular fluorescent light for 12 hrs? Secondly, what would you do with the grain bags that didn't work.?

they just need to be in a room with a window, indirect sunlight is more than enough, dont put a light source close to your grow or it will dry out fast, as long as temps dont go under 50 or over 83 youll be fine, good luck and godspeed

Those 2 middle bags look pretty rough.  You’ll likely get some success out of some of them but syringe to grain is a crapshoot. Instead of continuing to buy pre-made bags, invest in a pc, some agar supplies and build a SAB.  You’ll have a much better success rate and less frustration.  I’d stick to low to mid 70s and would avoid outside or direct sunlight as stated above.  Fluorescents are commonly used.  I’d toss any bags that didn’t take.  Not sure what the kit entails but those grains should be spawned to a bulk substrate such as coir once colonized.  I know you said you’d move to more advanced methods and that this is your first grow but there’s no time like the present.

Yes, it'll turn all white. That said, there might be flecks of brown coir here and there. Makin progress! Post pix!

4 out of the 8 grain bags were boo boo..50% failure rate lol..Some kind of cobweb stuff going on and didn't fully colonize. So maybe can add these images to the "what it shouldn't look like thread" so someone can learn from it..Note I used 3/4-1cc on all bags..The healthy bags actually came from 3/4 of cc..Although 8 bags isnt exactly research..

Also noted I'm Taking parts of the healthy mycelium and tossing in compost pile out side along with some leftover coir (I'll save most of it though)

After about 15-20days of substrate colonization I've introduced the successful batches to fruiting conditions

Want some feed back? How about not being a lazy mother fucker and actually learn to create your own substrate? Stop buying grow kits and learn some fucking mycology you lazy piece of shit.

Not that your statement deserves a response..But that was lazy attempt at insulting me..Not that I need to defend my reasons for posting updates, but I bought the grow kit before I learned anything about mycology or anything on shroomery..I had 0 experience with mycology..I'm simply finishing the grow to learn something rather then throwing 150$ in the garbage..

It's trash like this that makes me and I'm sure other novices, want to go to other forums

Good the forums don't want you here. You still know 0% about mycology. Congrats you wasted $150. You are worthless.

Don’t sweat it...nobody likes the guy.  It’s pretty funny how butthurt he gets on here.  As for your bags, they look like straight grain.  If so, spawn (mix) them with some hydrated coir in a shoebox or tub.

You don't need to know mycology to grow mushrooms. How many farmers do you think are botanists?

It's better to make no sound at all than to blare an empty tone.

OP. there are plenty of beneficial forces to be found here. You do, however, have to wade through the muck of it more than other forums. But I think the value you can find here once you trudge through is far greater. You are welcome here and people do want to help you.

Edit: direction.
