Not talking from experience, but polyfill would probably interfere with dry verm layer.

Do you recommend using grain (oats) for a beginner, thats going to use a spore syringe to start with?

How do you inject spores with the SFD? I’m still learning and trying to understand your way of the creation of spawn step. Sorry if sounds like a stupid question, TIA!

Thanks! I will be using this with pp5 ziplocs. So I don't have to crack the lid slightly open during colonization like I did with my first grow ^^

I think you'll have a hard time getting poly tight enough in a plastic lid without cracking it

One can reuse the polyfil, correct? As in, once a jar is spawned, it can be refilled and the same polyfil can be pressure cooked again?

I reckon I've been doing fine with pp5 containers sir, no problem at all. Did use a hot iron cilinder to make the holes though.

Hey Bod,
Im an absolute NOOB and am trying my skills on Pleurotes ostreatus using hardwood chips instead of vermiculite on your EAF BRF TEK using the polyfill lid filter.
You make a serious point of jamming the hell out of the polyfill to get a tight fit. I tried couple of methods w/o success before I stumbled on using some strong string to pull a wad of polyfill through the 1/4" hole. Sometimes I had a few tries where I could barely pull it through.
Fits my best guess of what's tight.
Many thanks for all of the good advice you've posted over the years.

Well did it work or just melt stuff all over your iron? Either way it's a very clever idea!

How the hell are you getting 90-100% colonization in that amount of time? My first try is taking weeks and still not 50%.
Im starting to think is the humidity in my lab! any idea what ideal is?

Hi all
Would microporous tape stuck on the outside of the lid work in lieu of polyfil?
