Hehe
Yeah, ya knw seems like everyone has been having more contamination problems lately. Might be difficult to pinpoint where contam began. I added it after cooking the coir. May have to try before like caps mentioned. Cept i aint having probs with them tubs.

Contamination seems to have lefte alone prior to first flush harvest.
With the exception of a few... Now that I'm thinking... but less if anything

re: pasteurization, the sub in those trays was done in three different batches. same sub mix, more or less, each time. first two batches, they were pasteurized on the stove top, as i'd done the successful hpoo sub as well, and all the casings i've used. this process wasn't great, as i'd miss the mark in various ways. i figured that could be the cause of the recent failures so i picked up a beefy temp controller to maintain a 160f water bath for the third batch of sub and the casing for those last four trays. that process went exactly as intended, which is not to say exactly as required. since i can control this very well now, i'll be experimenting with times and temperatures. i have not tried not pasteurizing.

How does mycelium look to you when its germinating on agar?
....... I know time will tell, but i am just curious!
Well... i think it aint looking pretty, am i right?

It cant be cobweb, its been like 4 days to get this kind of growth
Hi again, wanted to check if anybody has some input on this plate... I would bet my ass its mushroom mycelium, at least some of it. But i dont know why it looks transparent. I used BRF agar at 2%, maybe there is some nutrient variance within al my poured plates? i have some galindoi plates that look really healthy and vigorous, so....

I asked essentially the same question before, general consensus was it be like dat sometimes. As you can see, the bottom two plates in my pic were transferred from the same parent plate (you can even tell which plate came from which area ), and came to be visually much different. Both clean plates, definitely only mycelium. But it happens. It was suggested to try a different media, i've only used MEA, and it's possible/likely the mycelium is just used to MEA.

I just need to vent.
Having houseguests suck for doing myc work. Had to put all agar work on hold. I have plates that need transferred but canβt. Spawned 4qts to a monotub - first monotub for me!) last night in my bedroom. Dehydrator is running in my bedroom too. So much work I need to do but canβt...just a few more days!

wow.... Thats quite a difference... Thank you very much for answering.
I will make a transfer and hope for the best (also ioculate another dish just in case)! I have the feeling that it is clearly mycelium and not a contam. But my lack of experience makes me doubt.
What would your opinion be on the left pic i uploaded? looks like mycelium to you?
Thank you very much!

@Cthulhu; i hate having to put off work! Especially agar, i like getting that all wrapped up in one session.
@Sankhara; Looks like it, but a little tough to tell from the pic. If you hold it up with a light behind the plate, it should look like mycelium/somewhat rhizomorphic up close.

Well, thankfully (?) some fish I had in the fridge was rotten and went in the trash (out in the curbside bin this AM) so the house smells of rotten fish! more worried aboutβwhy is the closet light always on?β And βwhatβs the fan sound from your room?β

i haven't. you mention cutting the stuff with coir for textural reasons. would you recommend such in this case, without pasteurization?
i used bk and coir for galindoi, pasteurized, once and it worked ok, but compared to two other trays i did with straight coir, the bk tray contaminated earliest. to be fair, i cooked one of the coir trays to death about three weeks after first pins. on the other hand, that coir/bk tray had a marked increase in cap size. some over an inch across. straight coir trays didn't come close. for that matter, neither did the grass and bk. hm...

Prolly is myc. Need better pics. Light reflecting off the halo tells me stuff sometimes. Also, if there is what look like myc shooting strait up from the spores, it prolly is.
What may have happened is one group of genetics that you transfered grows myc that looks awesome on mea and the other group jst doesnt. When they all mixed together it may not matter. I say this because myc cannot be trained to a specific nutrient source. You end up selecting a group of strains great growth to transfer cuz that group of strains does well on that nute. If you transfer to a different nute source and it does poorly, it aint cuz you trained it, it's cuz you selected it for it's abilities on that nute in the begining.
My Bk boxes look amazing up top, but have sub-level patches of serious bacterial contamination. Can see it through the side. It's kina in the corners. Note that i generally spawn shoeboxes with slightly bacterial spawn that i dnt want to mix with the clean shit to make a big tub.

Coir covering wasn't even necessary:just extra shit to colonize IMO lol...
I don't pasteurize anything: nothing... Straight from the bag, crumbled and sifted through for sticks and stones...

The Bk you mean? Imma pasturize it with the coir nxt time. I dnt knw wat the fuck is in there really or if it's actually pasturized or consistant in any way. Still into it though. Mostly i hate verm and i'll get to replace it with Bk if it's consistant with pasturization.
