Lol no dude I know where Ottawa is, I just forgot that people's locations are under their usernames (well, not everyone's).

Okay so yes I'm a dork.

I've been watching this documentary on Prime. El Bulli. Off the coast of Spain. For years it was considered the most prestigious, and best, restaurant on earth. It really is an incredible story. Think about it -- how many restaurants are on this planet? How does one rise to have that type of acclaim? The guy who ran it, Ferran Adria, was the biggest superstar chef alive. And a host of chefs came through there who worked under him and went on to have incredible legacies on their own. It was three Michelin star rated (the highest any restaurant in the world can go and there's only a very, very tiny handful who can claim this) and people waited years on the waiting list to get a table. It was said that it was easier meeting the pope than getting a table at El Bulli.

The dishes they had, were stuff never seen anywhere else. Traditional dishes didn't exist there. It's actually kinda mind blowing when they show the dishes.

I enjoy nice quality food but tend to avoid really stuffy or obnoxious places.  Also due to cost I cook in a lot vs spending tons out.

Really just depends on my mood and if there is a celebration.

I like to consider myself a partial foodie.  I enjoy a good restaurant but would rather cook my own meal.  It’s cheaper and I have more control over the flavor.  I’m an ok chef in regards to almost anything

That would be my definition of a foodie as well. Anyone who views food as an art and not just something to eat. Just like the Wine people who want the finest wines or the Scotch/Burbon/Whiskey people who want the finest distilled spirits. A foodie wants that top-shelf, high-quality food that is all about the taste and appearance and experience of the meal itself.

I guess i would call myself a "causal" foodie as i usually want the best thing on the menu of any resturant i go to, from Burger King all the way up to sit-down mid-teir resturants. I dont go to expensive resturants because of the price, but if i made more money, I would likely go. Of course st the high-end resturants, Im more conscious of the price, so i usually get the medium-expensive item instead of the item that simply says "Market Price".

I would argue over time with age, everyone sorta develops a foodie-esque view on food because we are constantly redefining what "good food" is for ourselves as our perferences for foods get more and more specific/defined.

Any of you ever try Chilean Sea Bass before?

It's absurd. My favorite fish...by far, really. Idk how to describe it but it almost ventures into crab/lobster type sweetness & taste, but it's fish. It's expensive, though. The place by me prices it at $30 a pound.





But damn is it delectable

Salmon's great. Can't be overcooked though (well like any fish I guess).

Also gotta watch for the cheap grocery store salmon that's farmed. The low quality salmon farms pack so many fish in such a small, overly dense area that often times the fish are literally swimmingn in their own waste.

Wild caught salmon is the way to go but of course those are hard to find, so consumers are able to look up the farmed ones to see what grade they get as far as the quality. Verlasso farmed salmon is a good one.

Love Chilean Sea bass! That's not too bad of a price. If it is from the sea/water I'll try it. Love me some seafood, if I see food, I eat it, lol! A lemon caper sauce over that sea bass would be scrumptious.
