Sony Flat Panel
    #2619558 - 04/30/04 02:16 AM (12 years, 7 months ago)

Sony SDM-M51 Features:
15.1-inch viewable flat panel
Antiglare coating
Rich color processing
1,024 x 768 maximum resolution at 75 Hz
Removable tilt base

XP is telling me that the monitor does not support higher than 60 Hz refresh. I can uncheck the box ang get 75, but is this a bad idea?

not too sure, did you go to the sony site and check the specs?

isn't 60mhz fairly standard?

60hz should be fine on a LCD, if it supports 75 tho, yea, bump it up. I dont think LCDs fry the same way CRTs do if the refresh is set wrong. If it does, just send it back n leave it at 60hz

Try upgrading the driver for the monitor... 75 should appear one way or another.

Refresh rate doesn't matter on LCD flat panels, only on CRT's.

There is a notable difference between 60 and 75 though. For those of you unfamiliar with refresh rates, its the frequency (or interval) at which a monitor 'refreshes' or basically the time it takes to redraw the image on the monitor. If you're playing a graphically-intensive game with the best videocard, yet your monitor is an LCD at 60, the flickering image will be less than desirable.

Throw in a fluorescent (or incandescent?) light with the same frequency and your eyes will feel extremely weak and irritated within a short period of time. Try to keep the refresh rate at 75 if possible, anything 75+ will prevent most eye strain, but don't put your monitor at a setting it doesn't support as this may cause damage.

Yes, this is why I wanted to run it at 75, I have read it cuts down on eyestrain.

It works fine at 75 hz, I just had to uncheck the box. I tried 85 hz, and I got an error "out of scan range"

Thanks for the help, appreciated
