you discount the main benefit of psychedelic microdosing, the gradual increase of awareness spreading into areas that you habitually have ignored.
While waking up, i.e. emerging from deep sleep, you pass through the more resonant dreamy state on the way to the less resonant waking consciousness.
You do this with or without microdosing or any drug. fortunately, microdosing made you aware of this wonderful part of life which you had been ignoring.
if you stop microdosing or even just fall into your sleepy habits of before while still microdosing, then your benefits and expanded awareness will dissolve.
maybe you did not want the benefits after all.

Update
finally some relief.
Few hours of sleep last night.
Was sick of not sleeping and worrying about now sleeping so decided: fuck it, I'm gonna down a half bottle of wine and watch some YouTube.
That worked, don't remember falling asleep and had no visuals upon waking.
Tried to go back to sleep though and the visuals were there, albeit milder. So I'm just going to stay up and be good to my body today. Maybe that's what the shrooms are trying to tell me heh.
But yeah, some cardio, Valerian root, orange juice, and good eating are on the agenda. Thanks for keeping me semi-sane through this strange episode.

Just wanted to give a last status update here.
I've had a number of normal nights of sleep/dreaming now. Acquired a Benzo and that fucking did the trick, broke the cycle, only took a half of one. Finally feeling just about back to baseline. Paying that sleep debt still though. I've been working out and meditating more and have found those to be quite beneficial.
Again, just want to thank those here for their responses and guidance. I've experienced some slight after effects such as mild visual snow and ear ringing, but both of these have really subsided are are almost imperceptible again.
While I do still have some feelings of anxiety, every day I'm better.
I'll be getting aspects of my life in order such as my health and well-being before I consider using this substance again. Though I really think most of the effects were the result of sleep deprivation and anxiety to a previously inexperienced after effect that I didn't understand. And if/when I do use it, I'll probably make sure it's really low and a proper micro-dose such as 0.05-0.10. While I've had awesome times tripping 2-3 grams in my younger days, I do have more responsibilities today, ones that I don't want to risk with unforeseen potential side effects.
There's still a lot of science lacking about Psychedelics, and I can only imagine the sleep chemicals released in the brain somehow interacted with the dose, but what do I really know about it, I can only speculate, as that is the only variable that produced these effects.
Regards, everyone.

Mushrooms are oneriogenic for many people. Look up hypnagogia and hypnopomic hallucinations.
These and sleep paralysis can be frightening and people chalk up the experience as all kinds of stuff, succubus, and aliens, brain chemistry included. Its a normal process of going into and coming out of sleep.
Also if one learns about these things they can become playful experiences instead of being unnerving enough to make one wonder if something is wrong with themselves supernaturally or chemically.
If a person takes an interest in lucid dreaming, naturally they will be forced to become aware and experience more consciously these going into and out of sleep states.
hallucinations while going to sleep or waking up are perfectly normal, mushrooms or not. please dont go thinking anything is wrong with you for having awareness of these experiences.
You are not alone, I've seen kaleidoscopic hallucinations upon waking aswell, scared boxes, geometric structures, a feeling as though I can wake into another reality.
If im trying to lucid dream this sort of thing happens regularly. If im not paying attention and taking the time to examine my dreams then it happens rarely - to my knowledge.
Things get weird when we start increasing awareness concerning sleep & dreams. And its all perfectly normal, you may benefit from checking out one the the internet's lucid dreaming forums and seeing what they have to say about your experiences.
Edit: not to say this wasnt brought on by the mushrooms, because insomnia sounds like mushrooms to me. Just that its very likely not as bad as you may fear. Some may view it as a good thing. This hypnagogia is so cool now I know its normal, perspective flip.
P.S yea man we're all about keeping you sane.
