I think maybe I would have personally added a different nitrogen source as the control to make sure it's not just a matter of nitrogen availability. But idk maybe c-poo has so much already that it doesn't affect potency anymore.

They have engineered bacteria to produce a lot of psilocin, right? I wonder whether you could have them cleanly bioconvert tryptamines which are substituted in novel ways, to their 4 indolol counterparts.
