Jiffy Mix Plus?
    #2618484 - 04/29/04 10:15 PM (13 years, 1 month ago)

It seems the WalMart in my area has stopped selling regular old Jiffy Mix in favor of it's plus counterpart, which contains fertilizer. This wouldn't be good for casing, would it?

I have never tried it,but I had the same thought as I walked past the display the other day. I came to the conclusion that the fertilizer portion would not be a good thing to have in the casing layer. I would imagine that the fertilizer, being water soluble, could be removed from the mix by simmering it for about 30 min and then giveng it a good thorough rinse in a basket strainer in the sink. I'm not absolutely sure about this so if you can I would just try and find the plain old Jiffy Mix somewhere else if you can. But if you are just unable to find any give it a try and let us know if it works ok.
Good Luck
MYKEY

I wouldn't use it. Most of the nutes made for plants that arn't from a organic source are very high in sodium.

You should listen to MAGASH. The guy definately knows more about this stuff than I do. He is so right about the sodium ,I just didnt think about that before.
