Maybe I overlooked you already answering this but do you use agar?

Last grow I did agar from my clone and also ms from penis envy syringes.  I poured some agar plates but after the last disaster I didn't do anything with them and I just checked...all dried up but zero contams.

I will say that I have not used oats yet, waiting to run out of rye. That being said the TEK's that I read mentioned to buy the "Country Feed Race Horse Oats" over the "Producers Pride" oats as the producers pride oats had a much higher probability for contamination. I have both available for options in my area and race horse oats are $15 per 50lbs vs $14 per 50lbs so I will go with the suggested option here.

You are using whole oats I assume? Pics of sterilized oats may be helpful but since I havent prepped or used I would personally be of no help short of repeating info from the TEK.

Are you using agar for the grows that got trich? If using spore syringes that is likely the cause. If you're using agar and still having problems idk what to tell you.

I've never used oats but I have seen a thread on here about someone who had the same problem until they switched what brand of oats they used. I'd link to it if I could find it.

Just hang in there and dont let a few moldy tubs discouraged you. When I started out I had a bad batch of spawn that led to about 15 tubs all not making it to the first flush.

Hey if you want run an experiment, pc jars just like normal and inoculate all but two or a sample it doesn't have to be two, but it has to be more than one. I did that and found out my pc cycle wasn't killing everything, now i run my pc 2.5hrs with a 5-10min vent. It took about a week for me to see contams and after i upped my pc time it took over a month to see contams. Good luck narrowing down the source of your contam issues.

how do you prep your oats dawg? how long do you PC?

I follow the easy AF tek.  So I boil them until just a few are burst. Then I strain and let cool before loading jars and pressure cooking for 2 hours 1t 15-18psi.

What type of coir are you using? Eco earth?

I have used different stuff but not eco earth.  The latest has been Botanicare and before that Kempf.  I'll often add some Gypsum and vermiculite.  No casing layer although I did try a casing layer and a PE grow that was less then outstanding.

I'm assuming this is what you've been using?

https://growershouse.com/botanicare-cocogro-loose-1-5-cu-ft#!

If so, from the description- "Cocogro™ is aged 18 to 24 months to avoid pH and nutrient imbalances. It has optimum air to water ratio with 30% air content. Cocogro™ is fully decomposed with stable pH & EC and is flushed of excess sodium. It is inoculated with Mychorrhizae and trichoderma fungi."

And if that's the case people can rave over the bucket Tek all they'd like but you need to properly pasteurize that product otherwise I'd bet against it lasting for long.

That is what I have used.  I've used this too:  Kempf Compressed Coco Fiber.  I switched from the Kempf to the Botanicare thinking that maybe a different brand of coir would help.  Interesting that it's got trich in it.  I do bucket tek in coolers and they keep it really hot for a long, long time.  I'd be surprised if they aren't pasteurized.  I typically leave overnight so they're in hot temps for a long time.  Also the coir itself does not contaminate if left alone after bucket tek but maybe if trich is left over in the coir it does like the oats?

Are there recommended brands of Coir that don't have trichoderma added?

Why the bucket tek is hotter than pasteurizing so you'd be making sure that you killed the shit they added. And that added stuff wont start growing unless there is a plant planted in the coir anyway

I think most peoples issue with oats is not drying the grain long enough before adding to jars.  Gotta try different things.

Yeah some coir is not good at all, had this one 5# brick that would trich non stop. Shit had random nuts, sticks, rocks, salt chunks, and even jungle turds.
I even sterilized it a few times and left a jar sit for a month after taking half out, rotten eggs and white mold.  :puke:
Went to Eco earth, solved my problems and haven't looked back, you do get some questionable blocks of eco to sometimes. Worst I've found is some nut hulls, rocks and a stick or two.

I would put some of your coir in a quart jar and let it sit a month and see what happens if your sure your culture is visibly clean.
At least get that off the check list because some coir is probably like putting clean spawn in unpasteurized poo, literally.
