Climate change, global warming, such a hot topic right now. A polarizing one too, you either believe it or deny it with all your heart. Perfect for the news, drama = ratings. Super.

But why, WHY is global warming the only thing discussed when it comes to our affect on this planet? Whether you believe in greenhouse gases and rising temperatures or not, CAN ANYBODY LOGICALLY DENY THAT WE ARE POLLUTING OUR OCEANS, RIVERS, AIR AND SOIL???

No, they can't.

So who gives a flying fuck if global warming is real or not? We need to get our shit together regardless. Clean air and water are priceless. Money made from destroying those things is very temporary, and it only benefits a few people.

Fuck Mars. Do you build a new house every time you have a party, or do you simply clean it the fuck up the next day?

Get your shit together people.

I made a similar thread a little while back. Climate change is real whether man-made or not, and it will certainly be an accelerant to global and societal chaos and disorder in the near future.

Nuclear, both weaponized and used for energy, has the potential to end it all, or at least rearrange things basically beyond recognition. When we build a nuclear plant, do we really believe we are building something that will remain safe forever?

Pollution of the air and water is huge. As is overuse of water, over-farming of the land. We're stripping the earth of nutrients while filling it with toxins.

There's no perfect answer. We can forcibly remove the corporate and political bad actors that have caused much of the mess, but history suggests that will merely start a cycle of more of the same, or worse. We can change our own actions, but that is futile if the larger systems that led to these problems are not drastically reformed.

I personally don't fear it. The sun will be boiling the oceans of an uninhabitable earth in what's relatively the blink of an eye anyway. The human species is a finite one. Odd that evolution has led us to the ability for space travel, the only hope of continuing our species, although we'd need to go a hell of a lot further than Mars.

I do wonder if we all should feel the need to be super environmentalists, and spend our time crusading to try to save the planet. Or is that a waste of life, when we should be enjoying the time we have here, exploring what life still has to offer and sharing it all with those we love. I think if we could convince everyone to meet somewhere in the middle, we could keep this thing going a little bit longer.

Pollution in the USA was much much better prior to Trump, and better than 1970s and prior.  Not far from here a river caught on fire.  Great lakes brewery has a beer called burning river after this fire.

What is driving climate change is a form of pollution.  Then now Japan wants to dump radioactive water into the ocean.

I'll tell you what I'm not doing. I'm not growing thousands of acres of almonds that require pesticides that drift into neighboring communities and cause cancer and other lung diseases. I'm not buying entire rivers and diverting them into my canals for my monocrops. I'm not burning down the Amazon to grow soybeans or raise cattle. I'm not running a dairy and feeding my cows silage.

The current Ag industry is a joke. They claim it's the only way to feed the world, but the evidence shows otherwise. Most big farms lose money and live off government subsidies (ie welfare), and this is because they are spending all their money fighting problems that they create for themselves.

Know where your food comes from. Don't buy mass produced meats, soy products, palm oil, etc... This will have a much larger effect than people realize.

Feevers, I see your points. I'm not telling people not to enjoy life. But pretty soon we wont be able to enjoy life. What the hell will we all do when there are no fish or trees left? Play fucking xbox and take xanax? No thanks.

This life is pointless without pristine natural environments to get lost in.

Life may be pointless regardless of external circumstances. There's no easy way out, and no guaranteed happy ending.

Meditation can certainly help in these times. Turn the mind into a pristine environment.

Isn't life kinda pointless in general? I mean...you live, then you just die. Hahah. I think the only reason things truly live is to procreate, which is something I struggle with. Everything in me wants to produce many, many babies but I also don't want any of those things to experience shit circumstances and pain and unlivable conditions the future might bring solely because I was out spittin my seed around.

The existential meaning(or lack there of) of life is not what I am discussing. There is nothing we can do about death. I just want to enjoy this physical world while I can. And just because we are all bent up about life being pointless doesnt mean we should take down every other species with us.

Have you eaten almonds, any and all monocrops, soybeans or beef anytime in the past few months though?

I am not saying to distract yourselves, I'm saying we are being distracted away from this problem. And even global warming is a distraction since half the population chooses to say it's a hoax and uses that to justify their behavior.

I wouldnt say deniers are trying to justify anything, and besides us plebs aren't even rubbing shoulders with the real evil that irrefutably does horrible ecological damage.
Some of my go to things are vehicles. I have 4; a 1972 chevy with a 350 2barrel, tuned for proformance, no cats or 02 sensors - I drive it about once a month.
A 96 honda gutted and lightened with no cat and no 02 sensors - fuel map defaults to RICH to compensate for lack of catalyst mapping - drive this car currently about 15 times a year (rally)
and two other hondas with perfect OBD2 systems.
Its a point of pride because in the 90's honda was making real leaps and bounds towords ULEV and in 1998 with the Honda F23A1

Ok, so the oceans are super fucked, I love fish, but I don't know where the fuck to turn, for my fav meat; farmed, or wild caught.
Beef is meh, there is better stuff, chicken is ok, turkey is better, pork is almost as bad as human meat in terms of how good it is for you.
All the slaughter houses for these places have putrid BLOOD LAKES pollutes the air and ground water.
The demand for soy in lieu of all the above meats and other foods is directly responsible for the destruction of billions of acres of forested lands (but don't worry about oxygen production, even grass can do that job)
We use all sorts of things wastefully, how many of you shit in a toilet by show of hands. .. . 3,4 . . . . 19 - right, just about all of us, might be a few of you freaky hippies use a composting toilet and a handfull might live in a country where squat toilets are prevelant, but for the most part every human on the earth shits and probably 90% of them shit in water.

And don't get me started on toilet paper; all of oregon is a giant toilet paper mill, almost every tree in oregon is owned by warehouser or georgia pacific. There is no fucking climate crisis, its a cash grab, I mean leaded gas was bad, even cars that DIDN'T use/need leaded gas, were pretty dirty, if you drive behind an older car (70's or 80's) it stinks, but they got better.
Ironicaly as engine proformance and economy/EPA improved, they made more and more cars and made them out of more aand more plastic - COMES FROM OIL! My moms 2000 ford focus has more plastic in it than a toystore.

Batteries are cool and all, but the way we produce those batteries and the recycling programs for ANY EOSL (End Of Service Life think phones; hell I have a box of 10 years worth of old phones) item is deplorable, sure we took the lithium out of the earth, but at concentrations that weren't poisonous, a battery left on its own ruptures and leaks shit into the ground.

I don't think that global warming will cause any major problems. Coastal areas might be underwater, but those are mainly owned by ridiculously rich people who can afford to either build a sea wall or move and rebuild.

Even if Nevada was 25 degrees warmer than it is now, people would still live there just fine, they'd just have better AC. Look at people in the middle east, and they get by just fine with a tiny fraction of what we have here. Farming won't be affected either. It can be done at scale in doors even in some terrible worst case scenario that won't happen anyway.

And if we really care, we just can just pull the CO2 back out of the atmosphere again using massive machines purpose built for doing so. But we won't need to because nothing really bad will happen except some beach front property getting flooded.

The planet has been both warmer and colder than it is now and life did just fine.

If global warming isnt real, how do you explain the constantly shrinking ice caps and glaciers around the world as well as rising ocean levels? Why are they melting so quickly?
