i could swear i heard or read it stated that you can't use an inline blower like the one pictured for a laminar hood. i thought it sounded bogus, but had faith in my ignorance. you have no issues with that one?

As long as there is uniform pressure behind the filter to create laminar flow it doesn't matter if the fan is inline or not. This is a good example of an industry inline setup. I've seen them used as flowhoods.

I personally think a flowhood should be constructed around the filter. That being said I wanted to build mine with the correct CFM for my filter and the key is being able to blow past the static pressure of the HEPA. I had a lot of confusion understanding the specs of the filter and blower fan curves that worked @200 CFM @.9 in wg for my filter.
My other emphasis was trying to build it in the smallest amount of space and least amount of money. I have about $180 total in my setup all in. I had a hard time finding a squirrel cage blower, they were either severely under powered or over powered or just too damn expensive. Most of the fans I was pricing were about $200, and that was my whole build. Granted I had to do a lot of ebay shopping for parts and waiting. Here are the fan specs on the Fantech FG 6XL I used. Ended up about 220CFM @ .9 in WG which gave me a little wiggle room. It actually flows a little too well and had to add another prefilter. I paid $55 shipped for it on fleabay in an open box condition.

You are fortunate to have access to U.S products, it's very difficult to source parts like these in Canada, specifically HEPA filters. Filters are way over priced, having them shipped across the border is absolutely ridiculous.
I couldn't build one for less than 1k.

Those standalone units work great. If u can find them used theyre a fraction of the price of building say a 2'x2'

Hellz yeah! Thats a little more than i payed to build my 2x2. I can fint those used standalone units for $200 US pretty regularly. Not sure how much shipping would be tho. I drove to pick mine up an it was free

I actually considered one of those units as well, wasn't sure how well they would work so glad to hear you have personal experience. I saw some on fleabay for extremely cheap and very little modification would need to be made to make it work for us. The only thing that would bother me is no prefilter, but you could modify for one with some headroom in the fan. Prefilter isnt necessary but some of RR posts stated that it made his HEPA filter last years longer and I like that.

Yeah, mine was wired for 270 so i had to get a step up transformer to run it on 120. I just gorilla taped a furnace filter over the intake and it works great as a pre-filter

These also will keep the psi stable and shut off after x time.
But it's just a standard 5tier shelf with wheels i just unscrewed the bars and split it in half.

Ok so I see your thermocouple is going into the over pressure plug hole. Are you not at all worried about not having an over pressure plug? Especially since you aren't monitoring them as closely as you would be if they weren't modded?
Edit: nevermind im a dummy
