San Pedro Cutting Damaged!
    #2615926 - 04/29/04 11:20 AM (19 years, 9 months ago)

I recently received a San Pedro cutting.  The cut was nice and calloused over.  I was getting ready to apply rooting hormone when the cutting fell from a ledge.  The cutting split open in a couple places at the callous. :shake:  The splits stay closed on their own, but I definetly see green wet matter when I spread them with my fingers.  Can I still start the rooting process or should I recut and dry the cutting?  Thanks for your help.

You could recut, but i wouldn't do that. I'd throw some salt into the cracks that are there and let them callus up again/heal then wait to replant.

Thanks neuro! I filled the cut with salt and leaned it upside down against the wall. While filling it I noticed a small black area on the edge of the cut.

Is this rot? Should I worry about this?

Thanks again!

is the black area soft?

You didn't have to fill with salt, just put some around to suck out moisture and aid callusing back up, brush off the salt after a day or so.

Check the black end if it's soft, if it is, dig it out and let it callus.

Be patient too. They can take a while sometimes.
