What's a SMALL thing that turns you off particularly in a prospective partner? * 1
    #26176379 -

You're dating someone, chemistry is good, but there is that one small thing about them that turns you right off.

I'm talking about a thing that you feel most people would find no biggie, but it turns you off particularly, a personal sensitivity.

What little thing about a date could turn you right the fuck off?

If they can't drive. Like, you are a grown ass fucking adult, learn to drive for fuck sake. I mean, that's just so many red flags happening simultaneously.

If someone has a physical disability or something, or you live in a country where driving is not required then that's different. But if you just can't because no good reason? Oh hell no.

No problem

Not driving has been a conscious choice, mainly centered around that you need a degree of psychomotoric multitasking to drive a car that I don't feel I have. I'd be accident prone, also with my meds.
I tend to stray off on tangents of thought and if that happens behind the wheel, boom, accident.

For me, a turnoff would be if my prospective partner would religiously watch sports on TV.

I mean, if you DO sports, great, I'll come watch
If you go to matches, splendid, I'll be in the stadium right beside you every weekend

But fucking watch sports on TV all the time... Turnoff.

Sports, either DO or DON'T. Its shit to look at for hours on the TV, either get involved as an athlete or a live spectator but otherwise, leave it be.

People who can't decide on things. It's not a deal breaker but fuck, when I ask what you want to eat and you say "I have no idea, you pick." :kingcrankey:

Bitch you could at least tell me what you don't want. You have pizza yesterday? You had Chinese food three times last week? You've been having sexual fantasies about eating French fries while naked? Gimmie something ffs, if you can't pick a meal how do you pick a life?

I was going to say gross chewers as well. Whether it's lip smacking or chewing with their mouth open... nails on a chalkboard to me.

Also if they're rude or overly demanding with the waiter, not my tempo

When you give your wife access to your account to pay the bills every month and find out she's snorted the last three up in Percocets.

Or when you meet thier kids for the first time and the oldest goes around your vehicle with a pool noodle and "pretends" to bust your windows out.
You walk out and ask "Boy where did you learn that!?"
He says "MY MOMMA!" And wacks you with the noodle!

If I am on a date with someone and they are rude to a waiter, bartender, ticket handler, or basically anyone we may encounter together, done. Walking out on the date right there, and may or may not explain why to said date depending how others were treated in front of me by this date.  I see people on dates all the time where the dynamic is one person is treating folks shittily and the other is basically apologizing for it.  Not cool, not what I want.

Nope, you're out, not standing for that and it is not that uncommon.

No I'm more referencing when people make mountains out of mole hills. They enjoy the attention so they blow everything out of proportion.

Being gay there is a lot of drama queens out there and I deal with enough of them through work to ever spend my free time around it.

I can't think of anything small or something that someone wouldn't notice.

Usually, people who try to impress others turn me off. If you can't be secure enough in yourself to just have a conversation and just be a normal person, I'm probably going to stop talking to you immediately.

In a woman that's actually a bit of a turn-on for me, as long as it's directed at me. I think that kind of insecurity is understandable, nobody wants to be boring or lame. If a girl is trying to impress me it's because she mistaken believes Im either too good for her or that she isnt good enough. In trying to be cool she inadvertantly becomes vulnerable (and not the creepy kind, like vulnerable as in accessible and human)

when I was like 17 a girl made me a facebook account, I used it for like a year, I thought it was like pokemon adding friends, gotta catch em all, it sat idle for a long time, 4 years ago when I learned that fb runs facial recognition on all photos I decided to delete my account

my gf has a fb account, I wanted her to look up if Spencer Reinhard had a facebook account cause I saw the movie American Animals and I wanted to buy one of his paintings, but she wouldnt do it, told me to create my own account to check :crankey:

you cant get away without being on there though, everyone takes photos and uploads them to fb, I use to tell people not to upload my photos to instagram or fb, but I have given up on that

In trying to be cool she inadvertantly becomes vulnerable (and not the creepy kind, like vulnerable as in accessible and human)

Being vulnerable and being so insecure that you feel the need to impress others are two different things. So, agree to disagree.

Well, shroomery is with people all around the world. It's more like a chat room than social media.

The idea of social media is to keep your real life friends that you don't have the time to be with updated on how things are going in your life.

Some people are private and just do their thing without it

On the contrary.. I find some of my favourite people to be the kind of can share a silence with without feeling the need to talk. When it's like that, interaction feels like it's less driven and more organic. "What's going on" is more like just what you say to someone you haven't seen in a while. It's an extended greeting.

For sure, I try and add things here in the hope that they'll bump the traffic and encourage others to do the same. It's slow here, and I miss the days when people shared more.

It's Bill's words that sum up the 'traditional' social media thing for me: 'The idea of social media is to keep your real life friends that you don't have the time to be with updated on how things are going in your life.'

That doesn't sound like joining in with ones mates to me. That sounds like the side of social media that's fucking with the people that heavily indulge in it. Those that are suffering greater levels of depression because of their indulgence in looking at the pseudo-lives of others who use those mediums. Self-centred shit.

I hold my hands up - I take issue with that stuff - because of the inherent harms I see if doing to humans around me. I also know it's a ridiculous idealism, but this is where I come to vent about such things.

I constantly hear this sentiment on threads but I don't see how that makes sense.

Social media involves communication through what I like to call "social surrogacy". You craft a version of your identity that isn't necessarily your real self and display it to other people under the premise that it is representative of you as a person.

Not like an avatar that purposefully obscures your identity, but your posts can still can represent your true self.

Also the major social media sites don't operate on specific interests like the shroomery. They just represent the zeitgeist through different formats without the pretense of a unifying theme.

That's just my opinion, which is honestly rooted in a resentment for social media and not wanting any of my online activities to be associated with it.

A thread is just a page or thing that expands into a conversation. And no offense but it kinda seems like some of the rest of what you're saying boils down to you thinking we are just different or better and that's kind of beyond the point. If there's like some kind of criteria people have decided these things need to fulfill to be social media then I'd like to know, but as far as I can tell it's more derivative of what people perceive those communities as. Someone can make their own platform anytime they want. They could be "the one" to actually take the proper time to mould it into something worthwhile. Like The Shroomery. I never said I thought this is Facebook. It is however social media. Webpages can only take so many reasonable formats while is in large part the reason why I used the word. Social media doesn't have to be a bad thing. It could be a term of endearment if the one you're talking about is good. Wasn't this always somewhere for counterculture? Embrace the gay.

I guess my real gripe is that the term social media is extremely general. What people commonly think of when they hear "social media" is a big dopamine game that operates under the premise of being real life.

The term can refer to literally anything that is a medium for a group of people communicating to each other.

Just think the big outlets are more harmful than good in their current form. Doesn't disqualify it from being used effectively by a minority of users.

Back on topic though, deal breakers are...

Cigarettes
Vegan
Overtly new age spiritual
Traditionally religious

I don't really consider us "social media". Social media in my view invokes the image of gimmicky, dopamine pushy, addictive, general topic places.

We're an oldfashioned messageboard, we predate that stuff, you have themed places for specific subjects here.

Twitit, Facepoop and co would envy the sheer volume of functionalities Ythan added over the years, you can be a member here for a decade and still discover new features that were there all along. If they all made those dopamine blips, flashes and prompts you'd go stark raving bonkers, but they're discreetly worked into the software as to be unoffensive unless you choose them. Often you can even opt out of them entirely.

The Shroomery's interface is addictive in the sense that any other board and media looks like some schmuck slapped some features together over the weekend.

Message boards are the progenitor of modern social media. That association necessitates common characteristics. When I see/hear "in my view," that made the think of like how some people might hear "drugs" and think addiction and meth and poor behaviour when others think laying on your bed thinking about stuff on mushrooms. It's all relative.

I agree, however Merriam Webster is less discriminating.

Quote:
forms of electronic communication (such as websites for social networking and microblogging) through which users create online communities to share information, ideas, personal mkessages, and other content (such as videos)

But semantics is not my favorite game to play anyway so take it with a grain of salt.

What boggles my mind is how a complete lack of social media presence is a real red flag for a lot of people in my generation. Even freaking future employers!

I think this site should trend into a social media sites. But it needs to be a psychedelic one. We need people to be able to express their psychedelic ideas without people bringing others down. We should have a platform to post our pictures, our drugs, our best trip reports..etc. I know we have a means to do that in the pub but I think it needs to be part of the account setup. We need to step it up and go more psychedelic in this place. It's turning into a bunch of people (myself included) who don't trip as much and just talk shit about whatever. We need toake this place MORE PSYCHEDELIC

Great (ta). Being great, it flows out;
Flowing out means far-reaching;
Being far-reaching, it is said to return.

It's just a shot away..

Someone who is completely anti rec drug use, it's a must for me to be comfy while doing it, even if they don't, but I'd prefer they do at least something, even once a year.

Doesn't like to travel or go for driving road trips

Pretentious, label whore, narcissistic, money driven, extreme political views and watches all those pundits and the state of the union etc...and hates people who don't vote as if they killed someone or raped a baby by not voting

unkempt, dirty, sloppy, dirty bathroom/room/domicile/self

loves country music and has to play it all the time

hates certain movies

It's Bill's words that sum up the 'traditional' social media thing for me: 'The idea of social media is to keep your real life friends that you don't have the time to be with updated on how things are going in your life.'

That doesn't sound like joining in with ones mates to me. That sounds like the side of social media that's fucking with the people that heavily indulge in it. Those that are suffering greater levels of depression because of their indulgence in looking at the pseudo-lives of others who use those mediums. Self-centred shit.

Dude...not everyone can just "join in with ones mate."  Sometimes they're a thousand damn miles away.  You sure have been testy lately.

You need help if you don't have any social media accounts and don't go out. No friends AND no online friends? That's just sad.

No. Fuck social media, it is worthless and unhealthy. It is like pokemon or a similar game.

When I was in middle school I literally didn't even think about it. "I have to make a Facebook account, and I have to make as many friends as possible, and now I have to post something. And it better be cool and good so I can get enough likes and maybe another 'friend'. And in between all that I can play fucking farmville to stay busy because everyone else does.

Meanwhile Zuckerberg is just chuckling evily and raking in the dough.

Yeah I guess this really is social media in a way.

But it's also a more thorough form of discussion where real, life-changing ideas are shared as opposed to us just posting photos of our day and calling each other cute.

And we're also a tight-knit minority outside of the norms of greater 'society' and their preferred medias. So we're cool

The one thing we all have in common is definitely a "fuck society and its BS" kind of mentality. Not all from the same angle but it's much more of a commonality than like your brothers college buddy posting a picture of his new puppy or wtf ever people use Facebook for now

Oh you know the type. Girls who didn't know they had to check the oil in their car. Or think it's impossible to put together an Ikea bed frame. Or find the thermostat to be confusing

Dumb girl shit

Huh, my buddy had me check his oil for him and I don't even drive.

Hell my step dad never set up a medical appointment for himself until he was in his 50's.

If a girl doesn't know how to work a thermostat I'm concerned she's touched.

This one girl couldn’t read a map. Like at all. I was coming down from a day drinking event and all she had to do was drive down one single highway and take a single exit. I woke up from my drunken nap two or three times to find us in some random city. Had to explain to her how to get back

Again. She agreed to stay sober just so she can drive your drunk ass around.

My guy, have a bit of compassion.

Making sure you're safe and have fun Trump's not being able to follow a map.

I'd be more upset at the junky iPhone.
