The owner of the boat is citing pre civil war maritime law in order to avoid paying financial restitution of the families who died.

They will lose in court. California is not going to be impressed with pre-civil war maritime law. It doesn't matter too much. It's not like they have the money to pay for 33 deaths.

It wasn't a particularly bad little news story considering it was published by Breitbart, a garbage source in general.
