First time. Harvest question

First off, I apologize if my pic isnt in the proper format/style for this page. I'm new to this, and am just trying to do the best i can. Any help is much appreciated. Thank you in advance. The situation: first grow. Shoebox w/black liner. Somehow still got a side pin. Now I am wondering how i will harvest him when he's ready, and if that harvest process would change how I would do the next flush. Thanks again.

Wiggle back and forth and then twist away from sub, or slide a knife down the side, he should only be connected at one point.
You got the side pin because your liner is taped to the side of the tub. The substrate shrinks as it eats and perspires and the liner is meant to get pulled along with it. If the sub shrinks away from the liner a microclimate forms that induces side pins.

Dunking and harvesting procedures are the same
No need for a liner to thats way old school, to avoid side pins just maintain proper surface conditions (takes some practice so don't be discouraged)

Looking good! I find that with shoeboxes, a thin top layer of coir with a good top soak eliminates side pins on first flush.
Shaperdreaming has an amazing shoebox write up..
https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/26009662
Here's my last 2 shoeboxes.. straight coir.. with a top layer (about 1/4inch) I eyeball it.

Good luck!!

Unfortunately, I seriously bruised it at first when misting and fanning too much. Now I have a meter in there measuring RH, and i try to leave the shoebox alone. It is my first grow, so I am still learning (as I fuck up lol) Can the bruising heal? People havent been able to give me an answer on this. Edit: I responded to the wrong person on this. This was to JCM's comment on the bruising.

So, after I harvest these guys, should i just cut that liner off? I will have to cut the liner a bit in order to get to that one on the side anyways, right?

Either way, I was more saying that so you know for next time haha
No need for an RH meter in a SB anyway, check out the tek in my signature for a good detailed description on how to do shoeboxes (set and forget style, so it's super easy and basically maintains itself besides rehydrating

Thank you to everyone for your help, and for your encouragement. I really love this hobby so far and want to learn all I can, so I appreciate people not being dicks about it.

Thanks! I will check it out now. I am reading everything I can. But sometimes information from different sources becomes confused in my brain. I am new to Shroomery, but i think I'll just stay here.

Plenty of people still use liners. However I’ve found side pinning to be a good indication that the sub indeed is ready to pin but my surface isn’t optimal.
Bruising can be a sign of dryness and the area above your substrate not staying consistently humid I wouldn’t change anything drastic at the moment, you are afterall getting fruits and any drastic changes can cause aborts. Make any major changes either after the substrate is clear or on the next tub.

Thanks for the advice. I would be pretty sad to see it all go down the tubes now. I have got a couple of big guys in there that i think will be ready to harvest pretty soon. Do you typically harvest one at a time or all at once? I hear it is personal preference, but it would be nice to hear from someone with experience.

I know alot of people still use liners but there really is no point, if you maintain proper surface conditions then it doesnt matter, plus theres no harm in light reaching the sides of the substrate since its beneficial during all stages of growth.
When I harvest I usually harvest them as theyre ready so for me I may end up harvesting the same flush 2 or 3 times or just once or twice, depends on how fast they mature and if I'm harvesting some for prints or not

You can pick them as they mature...
The Shroomery discord is also a great place to learn/ask questions.

Thanks for the reply. One last question and then i think I will feel much more confident on this issue: When I harvest my side guy, can I just go ahead and cut off this liner, or should i keep it on for future flushes? Thanks so much.

I will look into the shroomery discord. I don't have a discord (yet), but i am quickly finding myself consumed by this hobby and would really benefit from having experienced folks to chat with. Thanks for the suggestion.

At this point id leave the liner on, unless your pulling out the whole block of substrate to harvest

So, to harvest the ones on the side, I just peel the liner away from them? They seem stuck to the plastic.

You can just wiggle it, or use a blade.. should come away pretty easily.
