I found these in a patch of grass, growing under a tree in NY.
I believed them to be Psilocybe semilanceata, but I am not sure.

those dont look like p. Sem's to me. Plus i dont think that p. Sems grow that close to trees...more of an open field environment. You need to provide more info, a detailed description of the gills, blueing reaction, and most importantly a spore print. this insures that an accurate id is made. for help read the faq's

Hey if you wanted a full name you should have given a full description which you can find out how to do in the FAQ. Man, you think for a free ID you'de be a little nicer.

Those look close to Coprinus micaceus a very common spring mushroom in the habitat you described. If they are C. micaceus, then you should be able to see some tiny, mica-like particles on the tops of the caps of at least a few specimens. The particles can be very small, so you may have to use a magnifying glass to see them. If there are no particles they could have been washed off by rain or the mushrooms could be one of several very similar species.
C. micaceus is edible, although you have to get a bunch of them to make them worth eating. If you want to eat them, use only the caps where the gills are still pure white. Once they start to turn black they are considered to be inedible.
Happy mushrooming!

Definately Coprinus micaceus.. no reason to eat them, go to the grocery store instead, if your hungry for mushrooms.
"I wouldn't eat those if i was you." Famous words.

Making a Sporeprint Take a nice mature mushroom and cut its cap off as close to the gills as possible. Place the cap gills-down on the material you have chosen to make print on (you can just print out the image below and take sporeprint on it). Cover the cap with a drinking glass (or something like that) and leave it undisturbed overnight. Next morning take the glass off and - Voila! -

thanks a lot. I will make the proper sporeprints tonight. Even if its coprinus I will still keep hunting. Sorry for coming off mean to u evan.
I found this at a new york city park, in a field mext to a tree. It was growing amidst the grass. It was comming out of some dung.
It's probably not even edible, but I will practice spor printing anyways.

Those are Coprinus micaceus.
They are best for being left alone or tossed when picked.
