Grain Strainer
Brought to you by THE TRIBE
Materials needed: Treated 2"x6" lumber- 2 @ 5'ft and 2 @ 2'ft Treated 1"x2" lumber- 2 @ 5'ft and 2 @ 2'ft Fiberglass porch screen 3'x5' roll of 1/4" spacing hardware cloth Staple gun and staples Box of 4" screws Tin snips Scissors Screw gun Work gloves
Lay out the lumber on edge with the 2 ft boards on the inside of 5 ft boards and secure them with some 4" screws.
Staple the fiberglass screen to one of the 2ft ends. Stretch the screen across and staple the screen to the other 2ft end. Then staple the 5ft sides. Then trim excess screen.
Unroll hardware cloth and staple on in the same fashion as the fiberglass screen. Using work gloves is highly recommended for this step. Trim excess hardware cloth with tin snips.
Attach 1x2s to the bottom of the 2x6s with 4" screws.
Strainer complete!
Now, as far as a stand. I'm currently using 3 saw horses and 2 box fans. With this setup I can have a full bushel of boiled Rye (56 lbs) dried and ready to be loaded into jars/bags in 20-30 minutes.
I also recommend a set of hot gloves for handling and mixing hot grain. I got mine from the BBQ section of a large department store.
This design is easily scale-able to fit any need. Large or small.
Shout-out to my homie PirateSwazey for the insperation.

How much grain do you prep at a given time? Lol
That's large enough for a commercial mushroom farm.

I like this design. I got the idea from someone recently to use a paint strainer bag, hang, and then air dry w/fan. This idea of yours is also nice because there's more surface area exposed to the fan than perhaps a paint strainer would allow. Looks easy enough to make, too. Guess it will work for outside until it gets cold. Maybe put some towels down to soak up any excess moisture if inside. Good shit.

Been using two of these attached along the long sides for a few years now. love em. feel like the grains dry out faster & better when I do large batches on these screens versus 10 jars worth in my kitchen sink.

I had to make me one of those the other day. I had 50# of oats soaking and it dawned on me 'how in the actual fuck am I going to strain/dry all of this'. All I had was this dinky Walmart screen contraption. Ran out to the hardware store and ended up with this.. Already had the pup tho. That's Zelda. She'll fucking spit on you.

Right after posting the above pics, I had an accident and the screen got ripped up. I decided to spend some time on it and make it much higher quality.. Ended up going a little insane with the grain strain...

I found to lay towel on counter top and with quick strain through any vegetable strainer, pour hot, wet grains onto towel and spread evenly be good to go once the the temperature of grain cools to room temp. Easy enough.
