Has anyone stockecd shelves before
    #26167188 -

I just got a job stocking shelves, I have orientation on thursday, how do I do my job, do I have to check the shelves first and record what I need, how the hell do I find it in the back, I think I got myself in over my head here

There are scanners and there's a system connected to the sales system that does a lot of the stock stuff automatically. Your manager will probably do the manual stuff but some places give just about anyone one, like Walmart. Mostly likely what will happen is there's a shipment. You distribute entirely or use carts to gather and take items to relevant places. Most of your job is rotating items and remembering where they go. Day stock is chill, night stock will probably have you busting your ass.

Anything you can possibly think of to improve your energy levels and sleep pattern is worth doing. The right food at the right time, caffeine, weed, fresh air can be great. Black out curtains. I had a hard time with nights, but it wasn't all bad. We were all stoners, you can talk about a lot of stuff with no customers around that you can't on days. I didn't exactly do stock but I handled the night time cashier thing and would get bored, so I did both. I've spent a lot of time observing things since then. Grocery shopping and shit.  Just categorize every aisle and you should be fine.

Overnight is best if you dont like customers bothering you while you are trying to work. Guess it depends if you like people or not

I tried this and only lasted a few days. Altho you can wear headphones & listen to music, the place I was at wanted you to go fast and they said I was too slow. I was like yeah well I just started and don't know where anything is yet... but they didnt care so I quit. they asked me to reconsider and I said no thanks!

Not too many of them do it but the best way is to quickly spread all the boxes out on the floor in the aisles where they are supposed to go, and then you just take your time opening them the rest of the night. Otherwise you're either running around or going too slow. Night stock is for whole shipments. Back and forth. It's a lot of work. Day stock is to fill holes from sales.

the problem with day stock is the customers , plus you often have multiple duties.  I probably wouldve stayed if I didnt have to run the cash register too. but thats aldi's for you. and they are obsessed with efficiency. they even clock your ring up speed and post everyone's average speed in the break room

this rages me because you know the fastest checkers are the ones who scan shit rapid fire, don't help their bagger and ring them out before everything is bagged then they say "thank you have a nice day" while the bagger is stuck with 100 things to bag and they just move on to the next order

exactly. and you would not believe the pride that comes with being the fastest scanner with these kids. the speed chart is basically the pecking order at the store. and they not only clock your time per item but also time between each customer as well as the time it takes the customer to pay

You will learn to face. Facing is to have the product showing the label in the language of choice to the customers. Good luck. Everyone shops and some customers will make your day, others will make you wish you could quit.

I worked at wal-mart for a couple weeks. If it’s anything like Walmart, the price tags on the shelves will have a bunch of numbers on them. Those same numbers will be on the cans and other items that you set up.

Each section is called a module and you will more than likely be building them. Pretty simple to do as people have mentioned. They do have the scanners that help identify the numbers on the cans and other items but don’t always count on those. The old school way never fails.

the place im working at used to have self check out machines that took cash, so many times Id find a $20 in the machine, Id purposely look at all the trays to see if any had money before picking one to use

if I saw someone left the money id alert them too it, but if the money was just there and that person was already gone id take it, but maybe for this reason the machines only take debit/credit now

and once I accidentally stole a bottle of wine, the person in front of me noticed something wrong with her price, the machine didnt register a scan and she alerted the cashier and the cashier manually entered it and all was good

then when i payed I bought a $20 bottle of kava and a $20 bottle of wine and the price came out to $20, somehow I missed this and just left, I realized about 5 min from the store that it was way to cheap so I checked the receipt and there was no wine on it, but I wasnt going to walk back for 5 minutes to pay an extra $20, I was pretty strapped for cash at the time and I shouldnt have been even buying wine

I have never worked in a grocery store but stacking shelves has to be better than doing checkout, where everyone is lined up and sick of waiting and then you have to call someone to check a price and you can sense the body language of people in line... fuck that shit, stocking shelves sounds way better. I would do it, I think shelf stocking robots will replace you though eventually so don't get comfortable.

I dont like this job, im too out of shape, my back was seizing up from bending over so much, and im too weak to do one item, the cases of spaghetti sauce, the cardboard is super flimsy and I have to put it up high, and the box bent on me and all the sauce shifted and two fell and broke, I caught like 4 in my arms and couldnt move cause they would fall and I had to call for help to get someone to grab them out of my arms, and did I mention they are heavy its like a 16 pack of glass jars, im gonna try to avoid that isle and straight up refuse to do the spaghetti sauce again if asked, I dont care if I get fired over it

but I didnt let my wounds show, the manager wasnt there, so the guy in charge was just a normal stocker I think, he said I did good though for no experience and the last guy they hired said he had experience with grocery but he sucked

so im gonna meet the manager when I go in tonight and im thinking im not going to like him, I think he will be like rushing us and nitpicking everything I do

the other problem is the first stage, we have skids with mixed cases of items and we have to off load them infront of the spot they go, and some of the cases are pretty non-descript and I dont know what aisle has what, so I cant even do this part yet, today was easy cause I was shadowing someone who knew where every thing went, but tonight I dont know if they will try to make me do it by myself

I can lift it kinda it just in a flimsy, small box and the jars dont stay in it well

after I smashed a jar the guy show me a trick where you cut around the plastic and dont pull the plastic off till you got it on the shelf, that way the jars stay kinda stuck, but I still dont trust it

I thought all the heavy stuff would be on low shelves, but these jars go on like head height

a teenager might be able to do the job, but there are no teenagers due to the hours, theyd be asleep during school

Dude it’s a shelf stocking job FFS.  I used to see how many beers I could drink at the Applebee’s in the parking lot when I worked Walmart night shift after 9pm when they were half price until my shift at 10.  Ur gonna be sore.  It’s a shit job.  Do as little as possible and just work somewhere else if they start to write you up.  DONT get fired.  Which should be pretty easy considering it’s easier to let someone do 60 percent of the work they’re supposed to than to train and find another body to work a night shift.  Don’t take your manager seriously just yes man him.  This is all advice if ITS JUST A JOB to you and YOU HAVE NO INTENTIONS OF BECOMING MANAGER/RAISE ETC

Once you know what the boxes look like and where stuff goes it gets easier. You just gotta get into a rhythm, it'll take a couple weeks. It can be surprisingly overwhelming at first.

If possible, use 2 upside down milk crates as a base to put the case on while you stock it. You can also put cases that go on the top shelf on top of any nearby cases that go lower, so you dont have to hold them or keep bending over

OP, you sound like you complain a lot and that is not a good trait. Especially at work. Just do your job and do it better than everybody else so you get raises, promotions, and good references for your next job. If you get a bad reference for stocking shelves than any future employer will think you're a waste of time and pass you over.

I dont complain at work, I lick my wounds at work, I come to the shroomery to complain , but who cares now I quit, my back muscles must be really weak because it seized up last night or this morning or something, and I cant bend over anymore without pain im gonna try to learn how to do a bridge, I think bending it the other way will help

my manager told me I can still come to my next scheduled shift but im not going to

when I was like 18 I had a dream job of helping build the beauty boutiques in shoppers drug mart, the only thing I couldnt do in that job was read the blueprints properly, my favourite part of the job was putting he glass shelving in the cabinets its pretty simple mindless part, but looks amazing when its finished

I found a picture on the web, not a very good one but it says its in windsor we probably built this one, in fact I know we did because its IMG's cabinets, that was my bosses brothers company

oh ya and there was like 6 of us and we knock these off in like 10-12 hours

LOL, how hard can it be to put groceries on a shelf? You would seriously probably die if you did my job for an hour. There are days where I would carry 500' of wire up 4 flights of stairs all day in 95 degree weather and 1 time I had to dig 75' in the dirt with broken toes. There were more days that I wanted to quit than work, but I kept at it and it paid off. You should have just toughed it out until you got a new job and then you would have a good reference.

Lmao dude you need to take a good long hard look at yourself.  You just bitched out of a shelf stocking job.  I have worked with frail single mothers who can stock shelves at Walmart!  3 days in a row is too much on your back and “kratoms not even helping.” ?!? That makes you sound so pathetic man and I’m not saying this to rip you but seriously you need to attain a work ethic STAT dude

Listen to loph, build some character
“Toughing it out” for this job is as simple as being physically present and doing the bare minimum without it being insulting to the manager.  You shoulda done that and tried to be a cashier and told them about your back injury they will usually try to accommodate you as they never know who will try some bullshit PR law suit etc.

I have back problems.  I quit my stocking job after two months.  What I didn’t do was work 3 days a week and then quit without finding another job.  I went right to UPS delivering shit for the holidays without a lapse in a paycheck

Something there is mysteriously formed,
Existing before Heaven and Earth,
Silent, still, standing alone, unchanging,
All-pervading, unfailing,
I do not know its name; I call it tao.
If forced to give it a name, I call it
Great (ta). Being great, it flows out;
Flowing out means far-reaching;
Being far-reaching, it is said to return.

It's just a shot away..

Try stocking a hardware store. Stacking salt. Fertilizer, concrete, all those gallon jugs of everything, boxes full of boxes of nails, fuck hardware cloth always poking out, boxes of paint gallons, 5 gallon jugs of paint, etc...

that stuffs probably a little to heavy for me but I actually enjoyed stocking the 15kg bags of dog food compared to the jars because they wernt in a flimsy cardboard box that shifts and bends when you try to lift it

For most of the normies out there, an operating system is just a bootloader for Google Chrome.

And I don't know what the mantis is praying for
But he's probably just thanking the Lord
That he don't live in a home
And he don't got a phone
And he don't sit around all angry and bored
(He's just a bug)

i'd fucking pull 25 pound boxes of pizza and place them in a bin for 5.5 hours a day every day
move like 1k pounds of meat every ten minutes with another person

they fired me for coming in 7 minutes late two times in one week

now I bet they can't even keep someone long enough to do the job
idiots
