Healthcare in the US * 1
    #26166759 -

Wtf.
Why is it so hard to get decent healthcare in the US.
Enrollment periods.
Ridiculous monthly payments.
Shitty hospitals and staff.
Obscene wait times and appt times.

Anybody else fed up with the medical community here in good ole USA

are you just looking for a check-up?

go to the ER if you have an emergency.

but either way, yes i agree. healthcare in the USA is for-profit. nothing else.

Got a hernia from some heavy lifting at work. Waiting at the local urgent care for about 3 hours.
And ya for sure $160 just to be seen without insurance. Which I find to be most likely inexpensive compared to others here.
Lucky for me it’s work related so the ins shouldn’t be a problem

yeah urgent care is a joke. you can apply for assistance to pay for the $160. just ask about it. most likely have to provide your income and shit but hey if you can get a reduced bill, i say go for it.

well, not free of charge. you didnt pay for it out-of-pocket, yes. but you pay taxes, right?

also, The Canada Health Act does not cover prescription drugs, home care or long-term care or dental care.

what was the reason for your visit today?

I've had pain in my lower right abdomen that hasn't subsided for a week plus.  Getting an ultrasound.  Also, prescription renewals.

How are the actual services in Canada? Competent docs? Here in the US it’s hit or miss with the staff

Usually, decent health care requires a job, and "expensive" is relative. But speak for yourself, I have awesome health care.

In my experience the doctors I've seen thoughout my life have all been competent.  My family doctor graduated Magna Cum Laude.

Nursing staff has been good too.  If you're an asshole I'm sure they would snap back though.

I assume you don't have a good job?
What do you do?
Get a good job with a good company that has good benefits and you'll never have to complain much about healthcare again.

health care sucks ass here
if i had used my jobs healthcare and gotten fired I wouldn't have health care right now

how the fuck you going to take something away from someone that they'd most likely need when they aren't working and then charge them 100-1000x more than what you'd charge a cat or dog?

People should be given healthcare even if they don't have a "good job". Your comment smacks of elitism.

I agree.  But until then I recommend people to get good jobs so they get good healthcare.  I don't like using the word "elite" in this scenario; I prefer the term "smart."

i realize that "good job" equates to "high-paying" job.. but what about those folks that dont have the skills or training to get a good job? what about those folks? they are excluded from receiving decent healthcare?

That would not be accurate.  The extremely high taxes to compensate for the free health care have probably put thousands in the poor house.

Same thing.

But feel free to make more disingenuous arguments.

And there’s a lot of people that work their asses off and don’t make a lot of money or have good health care. We have a bad system for the amount of money it cost vs median income

Even you folks that have good insurance as you say I have a question for you

How many times have you used it and have y’all had an surgery, extended care ie physical therapy etc?

Let the weak die off. Most problems are being caused by overpopulation anyway, right? Fuck 'em. Can't produce social value?! DIE!!!!

I'm fucking kidding, dudes. I wish I had a legitimate solution. I'm not against single-payer or a universal system if it actually makes sense.

Try to get a job that offers Healthcare. The majority of full time decent jobs come with Insurance and a 401k. Upward mobility, the American Dream, and all that.

Those who are disabled can get medicaid. The old get Medicare. The Veterans get VA. Then there's Private Insurance which is expensive and tedious but at least it's by choice and not stolen from your check like taxes and Social Security.

This doesn't apply to OP but if you're not trying your best to better your own situation why would anyone else? People in America are insanely lucky. We won the lotto being born here.

Re: Healthcare in the US [Re: Magicman69]

The issue for me is that I have what one living in Southern California would consider a “good job”
I make pretty decent money. But I am a carpenter. One that works for a general contractor.
This puts me in a “limbo” for any benefits that would be outside my job cuz I make too much money. However I don’t make enough to afford the $400/month it’s gonna cost for “low cost” California health insurance. The ins my job offers is absolutely horse shit.
Oh ya and the big kicker is that I have to wait till November to enroll. It doesn’t matter the ins company either. That’s all in Ca.
I don’t think a lot of people realize that insurance and medical communities vary state to states.

There are plenty of great individuals within the medical community. I didn’t mean for my blanket statement to derail their credibility. But the vast majority of doctors here are big pharmaceutical pushers. Symptom suppressors. Don’t even get me started on the jaded/undereducated nursing staff here.

Magic man 69
And I wouldn’t expect anyone to FIX my situation lol!! This is a pub for venting about the pitfalls of the free and lucky. Yes I can go to one of the few churches that Uncle Sam approves of. Yes I can say a few things at to those who don’t matter. Yes I can assemble. As long as I have a license to assemble from my local govt. you can’t do anything without permission here.
if you really think you live in a free America you gotta take some more mushies and open your eyes bro. Yes I have a lot of things some don’t but that’s not an excuse to redefine freedom.
