 How do you set up an alcohol lamp?

I know this is a really simple question but...
Should I soak the wick in the alcohol and then fill up the lamp? Or is soaking the wick beforehand unnecessary?

You just fill up the lamp, the wick will soak up the fuel itself.

Not needed. Just give it a minute or two for the alch to soak into the wick.
