Too plant papaver seeds, if I live in the upper midwest? First freeze is usually in late sept/early oct.

ok cool, does anyone know what the growing cycle of the poppy looks like?

one more question, what is the fastest growing strain of poppy seeds?

no it's not too late but get too it...the clock is ticking.

>>ok cool, does anyone know what the growing cycle of the poppy looks like?<<<
--before it goes into flower it grows in it's cabbage stage and well it looks a lot like cabbage...then when it begins to flower...the premature flowers look like hooks that droop down. as time goes by they become more erect and then the flower pops out. the flower keeps it's petals for a few days then leaves a bulbous pod. this is the final stage until harvest.

>>one more question, what is the fastest growing strain of poppy seeds?<<<
---persian whites, in my experience, are the fastest growing.

peace

so, it should be as simple as tossing some seeds in pots and just water and moniter the progress?

thanks Psilostylin

Don't water too much, in my experience poppies like it fairly dry. Not bone dry, but not soaking. Once you get past the seedling stage I think it's a very hardy plant. You'll most likely have trouble with seedlings falling over, although it's tempting don't touch them. They are very fragile and it really doesn't take much to kill them. The stronger ones will survive and continue growing. Good luck!

yes, be very careful with watering. damping off is a big problem for the young guns. what i usually do during the early stages is mist the seedlings with a waterbottle a few times a day. once they get a bit bigger...water like any other plant.
