OK. Pick with the spreads with the NFL.
    #26164651 - 09/02/19 12:09 AM (4 years, 7 months ago)

No entrance fee and the winner at the end of the superbowl gets a 50 dollar gift card of one's choosing.  No entrance fee.  Just choose.  I will post odds throughout the NFL season and playoffs each week only for the sole purpose of learning and will throq in some bonus gifts.

I live next to the Nevada border so I am doing this as a fan of the sport.  Am a huge Broncos fan and I bring this up because I don't want people to choose who they want to win, your hometown or nearest team, but who they think will win.

Moneylines are included yet they will be treated in a third category, 1/2 point since the NFL is a lot more unpredictable then College Football.

So starting out to see the interest level.  I will go by ESPN spreads and this isn't fantasy football which I fucking hate, this is for people that are fans of the NFL and want to participate.  Looking more for insight.

It is pretty much flip a coin until after week three I have learned but am starting now.

First game is Green Bay at Chicago with the Bears favored by three.  Who do you take?  Or Money Line.  I bet quite a bit legally in Nevada so if you don't know shit whatever, you can play.  Just add some reasons why or not and when the full schedule starts I will post, if there is enough interest, a W, L, or moneyline which obliterates the spread and will be a half point and rank each person week to week.

Once again, there is no entry fee.  More of a fan thing which there are some here.  Best of luck.

Sounds great. Are you going to do all the work rather than through a website? I don't understand anything about moneyline.

At any rate, I take Chicago with the -3.

Yeah, got to clarify more.  Moneyline is basically say like the Chargers/Colts game where to bet the spread one has to give -6.5 points to the Colts but with the moneyline is just another word for pick the winner.

Upsets for this get no bonus points but for those that just choose, say for the Chargers as it is even to bet the spread but for the moneyline they are like -230 to win a hundred.

So half a point to those that chose such as winners are much more easier to pick when there is no line involved.  Takes a little bit to learn but not complicated. This is just from a gambler and has nothing to do with this thread.  This is for fun.

Like I posted I bet quite a bit living next to Nevada and 50 is really nothing.  Is not illegal for gift cards for a winner of their choosing, like to see what people think.  Doesn't mean anyone has to follow all the teams as I sure as hell don't.  But there is always that one that stands out and I do quite well usually.  Why I want to throw in some bonuses for those who choose to participate during the season if there is enough interest.  Especially if someone picks someone that I wouldn't of thought of and I win on it.

People always assume their is a catch.  But in this, no.  This is enjoyable to me and I have integrity.  So let it begin, and once again there will never be an entrance fee.

So if enough are interested it will go like this.  And one can always take the points for the underdog if one chooses and get the W even if they lose within the point spread.

Username  W/L/M  M for moneyline basically for just picking a team which is easy in most games in the NFL.  One win equals 1 point.  1/2 point for just picking a team to win that does which is generous.  Choose your strategy people that choose to participate.

That it is basically.  But the smallest part of the rankings and the easy and boring way.

All teams are not equal. Spreads reflect that as does the moneylines and picking a team.  Much more interesting to me personally but to each their own.  Lot more strategy and intellect involved.  Or I could just watch the talking heads on ESPN and Fox and such.  Blah.

You organize it and I'll play it. I'll also play in the one with last year's website if anybody wants to play for money, or if anyone wants to do a side bet PM me.

Fuck this.  Going with the Chargers -6 1/2 over the Colts in Nevada.  Unless I change my mind and take Phillie over the Skins at -9 1/2.  Both are iffy, I hate betting this early in the season.  But if I win, epic end of Summer vacation.

Time to bet and see what happens.  Tired of wasting time on this thread.  So just pick-um people.:murray:

Yeah, just read Rodgers is banged up a bit earlier.  Sad to see Clay gone.  New coach, who the fuck knows?  I really can't till each year until after week three.  I once did a 3 team parlay on the first week and lost all three.  Taught me a lesson and made me laugh a bit looking back on it a long time ago.

Want to go with the Bears betting in Nevada to win a few bills.  I loved Mack even as a Broncos fan when he was a Raider but Trub concerns me in the limelight like this.  Think the Bears will play it really conservative.

Rodgers banged up and no more Jordy or Clay and with a new coach.  Might have to agree with you on that one.

That defense should still be solid. Don't think they had any major changes. Packers aren't good anymore, no defense and rodgers looks post prime.

Yes. Bears had no major changes on defense except the coordinator and from what I read he wants to be even more aggressive.

The spread is three and three is usually considered what home field is worth. So the betters are essentially saying the teams are equal. You're right. They're not. The Pack are declining in a lot of different ways. The main problem facing Chicago is going from a last place schedule to a first place schedule, but that's not an issue till later. Right now, they're at home facing their biggest rival so bloodthirsty motivation should be at peak levels. I expect Mack to be a beast on opening day on the national stage. I only hope the Bears have someone that can kick a field goal.

God, that still sticks with the Bear fanbase from the playoffs last year.  Which I get.  What a sportstown.  Chicago really should have two teams like with baseball or like New Jersey 1 and New Jersey two as some writer put it.  Tickets are not cheap but nothing in Chicago is except on the South Side.

Shit, might bet this tomorrow.  Very tempted.  Maybe I will make this a thread about spreads and who you would take as if one would put a large chunk of money on it. Which I do and since so many states are making betting legal, well 11 actually right now on your laptop or phone, casinos can be trusted, and they are now allowing it in Indian casinos, for the betters we have choices to make within reason.

So Bears -3 tomorrow.  But also looking at the Chargers playing in a MLS stadium -6.5 since the RB won't play.  But Rivers is a beast as is Bosa.  Then you have Phillie -9.5 at home against the horrid Skins, and finally Dallas against the equally horrid Giants as Zeke is back but with only three practices and at Jerry World at only -7.  Which causes some concern.

Fuck it, going with the Bears with the -3 and if they cover it, feel like it will be a push in O.T. or something as Rodgers in the limelight compared to Trub I like yet that Bears D.  Then on to Chargers.  Hope it works.  Have to look up who they brought in as their kicker this year.  I am used to Denver where we have a good one every year.

So on with it.

No, IMO he isn't post prime yet the team is and he is a bit banged up and wondering if the O-line can protect him or not.  Would love to see Mack just dominate.  New coach, just hard to go against Rodgers even if it was a College team behind him.

Anxious, that is the great thing about alcohol and drugs within reason when combined with gambling, within reason, one takes risks and will do so.  If I lose I blame the shroomery, lol.  Fuck it.  Interesting game for the NFL to open up with.  Look forward to it.

Dallas isn't a high scoring team so that -7 vs a divisional opponent is a solid spread.

True but the Giants are a team that will probably be in the bottom five in offense this year.  I wouldn't take them with the plus 7.  Though I usually shy away from underdogs anyway could never bet on the Giants.  I have no idea what to make of them this year as with the majority of teams, especially Cleveland except that I know that the G-Men are going to suck and the Cowboys will make the playoffs as a wildcard and Phillie for the division title is my best educated guess.  That I am pretty sure of.

After week 3 have a much better idea of all the teams watching them all in highlights and some games.  Starting out so much is just flip a coin.

Jags are intriguing with Foles at QB and that defense as dogs their first game.  Am interested in how they start out.  Been awhile for them at a competitive level and glad they finally gave up on Bortles.

Just got back from the Nevada border an hour ago.  So glad I backed out of betting against Rodgers though they only have ten points I bet heavy on Rivers and the Chargers.  Never expected this for the Green Bay D.

Boring game.  And a flag to further cement it on the punt.  Seriously, it takes till after week three in my opinion to get a grasp.  No excuses, but 3 points at home, really?  Desperation time and depressed Bears fans now.

Trub is going to get crucified now.  Can't rely on defense to score the touchdowns but still field position.  That was masterful.  Like one guy said on the "funbus" to Nevada, I wouldn't touch that game.  A younger man said the Bears in a parlay.  Glad I listened to the first one.

Now win by a T.D. Chargers on Sunday.  I always find it strange to have a piece of paper in my wallet that can be worth almost 400 dollars or just be paper and worthless after Sunday.  Life is strange.

God I am glad I didn't go with the Bears.  But there was worse then putting up 3 points on home at opening day.

Go L.A. Charges at MLS stadium.  Doesn't really count for homefield advantage especially when your hometown team is leaving the following year.  How do you root for them? I don't really follow the MLS but have seen rugby players starting to become popular nowadays with punting.  God what a boring game.  Not touching the Bears the rest of the year but at least I listened to an old timer and a man of reason.

Time to get this first week over with.  In the meantime, dancing and merriment as their is a Greek Festival and I will join in!  As much as they allow me to, lol.  God, riding this bender out till Monday.  Off topic but whatever, fuck the Bears and that travesty of a game.

That throw into double coverage for an INT late when you could of tied it.  Really thought the Bears before the game that it would be an overtime game and they would win by 3 which would be a push.  Green Bay had a 35% chance of winning outright according to ESPN and who the fuck knows this early in the season?

Now seeing articles today that is Trub a franchise QB?  His stats weren't all that impressive last year and 12-4 was mainly because of the D IMO.  Would of liked to see if Pinata, to early for name calling I know, could of made a 46 yard field goal before they got moved back five with so many delay of game penalties.

On to Sunday.  Feel good about who I went with, but will see.

That was a really, and I mean really rough way to lose.  I can take 380 or nothing but in that fashion .5 and the way it was done, that was rough.  I had tickets to Dr. Phil, Cordon, the beach and the endless 4 man rush.  Fuck them.

So now, I sit at home and watch with all bills paid of course and hate the fucking chargers.  Phillie would of been worse.

Instinct was Titans over the Browns.  Didn't give a second thought to Baltimore.  Fuck it.

Sometimes one feels before placing a logical bet instinct.  Especially first game of the season but I disregarded it.  That hurt.

Doom and gloom.  Why I don't bet the first three weeks.  Have seen the coaching staff and personal.  Have learned.  No sour grapes.  Just hate them.  They will go nowhere this season but mediocrity.  Maybe 7 or 8 wins.  Fuck them.  Bosa and that shit rookie tackle that the coach gave no help to,  watch Indy next week, watch the Chargers next week.

It is never making up money, it is about observing and I am on the sideline but they got the W in exciting fashion!  Fuck off.  30 points against.  Yeah.

On to October and I will hate this team the rest of my life. 7 points in the second half, good luck on that the rest of the season.  May Chucky come to life from Oakland.  Just a game.  But never again.  Rivers has lost all my respect and everytime I see him play, I will feel hate.

Well.  Going to wait till next month to bet as betting lightly to me is boring on my next return trip to Nevada.  Was impatient and didn't follow the rule I made for myself to scout the teams and not bet till after week 3.  But on with who I would go for this week for anyone interested.

Giants are a solid spread, lol, from last week, yeah.  Not that I have anything to brag about taking the Bolts but whatever.  Life goes on.  Makes winning that much better.

Pats -18.5 over the Dolphins.  Fitz is a joke as is Miami as Lamar showed last Sunday.  And the Pats will win by 18 so take the points.  Whatever.  October will be great hopefully.

yeah, they covered it easily last week.  Good pick.  Great things in the future for this team.  Would actually like to see them get a championship.  Been a long time but like the Royals think it will happen as the Pats, I think this season is there last hurrah if Brady makes it through it.

Seeing Lamar through from his back foot a bullet like that for a td and the Ravens am keeping an eye on.  Bet heavy and lost in a way I have never lost before.  Sometimes it is best to take the first half bets.

True, but one I had money on and one I did but this makes me feel better.  Seeing a 150,000 betting ticket kinds of put my loss in perspective.  Liked this article.  Jets are also in a extreemly bad shape but the Dolphins are getting rid of every good player they have.  It is like the Marlins used to be without the championships.

https://www.espn.com/chalk/story/_/id/27623750/notable-bets-how-bookmakers-adjusting-dolphins

Baltimore at K.C. is the best game next week IMO.  Not because I am sure I am win I just think it is the most entertaining matchup.  At K.C. and the great 6.5 spread which they make most of the time so you will take the favorite.  I'm going with Baltimore and the points.

If you want to continue this through the year if you beat me there will be a prize or for anyone else that wants to join.  Week three is the deadline.  A gift certificate worth 50 dollars to anything of one's choice.  Legal of course.  Have permission to do this from a mod like I wrote before so let the weeks go by.

I get nothing from it but learning and some fun competition.

With it a bit of gloating if it turns out that way.  Mahomes can't be superman each week and speaking about QB's, what the hell has happened to Cam Newton?  Horrid.

Makes sense why he has no accuracy.  After a great year a bit back teams just layed into him and he said the game wasn't fun for him anymore.  I mean it was brutal like the old time NFL.

Is easy to judge when one doesn't know all the injuries and everything pumped into a human being to get them on the field as teams do their best to not let the other team know so they don't go after the injured parts.  That's football.  Love McCaffery though and the name that cannot be pronounced Luke K.

Have lost a lot in a row on Cam starts.  Will be interesting how the season progresses for the Panthers.

Well his Superbowl Season he basically shit on the league and all the players so the following year they were out to hurt him. I clearly remember that and it was apparent as the refs let players destroy him all season. Fast forward to the future and now he's badly injured and just grinding out his contract, he really needed to be more humble instead of enraging everyone. That being said I hope he heals up and moves on, I mean he's super rich so he should be fine.

Yeah, money really doesn't mean much.  Seau taking a shotgun to his chest.  Jerome Bettis walking like an 80 year man down the stairs with a cane to do an interview at his home.  And whatever the NFL edits out or media involved with it.

Love the sport and feel no guilt supporting it.  Also why Luck I don't blame him.  Or Barry Sanders when they said you have the chance to break the all time rushing record over Walter before Smith did it but some prefer other routes in life.

Have a pick yet?  Thursdays count as well if you want to play the game.  Or not.  Just one a week and see if anyone else joins.  Seems you are knowledgeable.  So won't end the thread regardless, unless it dies.

I like to wait until later in the week to see injuries in practice and updates etc.

My pick is done.  Count it.  Even if it is you and me, if you want to see who wins at the end it is worth it.

And I will do what really matters and bet again with real money in Nevada but that is my business.  This is something that will never be about it.  Besides if I go off on a horrible loss, analyzing most plays of a game but I am sure you get it.  And if I win, maybe no venting as a friend once told me.

Seriously the Chargers game was the shittiest I have ever lost and I bet within reason.  This is only for amusement purposes meaning a gift card to whatever you see at a supermarket and that spin wheel or at the counter.  If you can beat me at the end of the season, I keep my word.

Not many sports fans on the Shroomery nowadays but I like to post as I live in Utah and on other threads, I also learn things in my life experience and some people get it.  I love nature overall and this is a pastime like Winter.

So 1-1 if you choose to continue.  All the past sports fan posters, really, all of them, no longer post but the Shroomery.  Same for anyone.  Make your pick. :coaster:

Just a joke.  Take your time if you choose to play this season.  Or anyone else.  After week 3.  I feel a lot more confident.  But the reward will be honored and remain if I lose if anyone else, sports fan or not, wants to join in with no enterance fee, no knowledge of the sport like a mans girlfriend or wife, sometimes they have better logic, and on it goes.

Baltimore and Reid being Reid.  OH THE MONEY CONCERNS!  Sucks losing the first one, but on with life.  Don't know, should be entertaining though.

I never got in the first week after the Bears game because I had a 15 hour esophageal spasm from Saturday night till Sunday afternoon. I hadn't had one since New Years Day and I thought I was done with them. They usually lasted 5 minutes to an hour.

That sucks.  Sounds miserable.  If you want to join you are welcome to.  Just post it on this thread.  The other one will just be about the NFL without that aspect to it involved.

Will start keeping track with week 4.  This week is null.

Garbage time T.D. for the Ravens?  Will see.  Been a boring game to watch.  Broncos should just reset, trade Von why he still has value, and reset.  Flacco just looks bored.  Don't know who is worse to watch, him or garbage time Casey.

I always pick the game that comes down to the end.  For some reason.

How do you think the Saints will fair against the cowboys?
