Gyms? New england * 1
    #26162955 -

Habitat:
Where does it grow?
Base of a conifer tree, near lots of decaying wood and leaves, there was also a stream nearby running down the mountain (white mountains region NH), growing in a bunch

Gills:
Orange/yellow, most of the specimens were immature, small and unopened however. They seemed to have a greenish, bluish tint where the veil is

Stem:
Pretty thick and meaty relative to the cap, fiberos

OH, p.s. there was also this awesome purple mushroom that I have no idea what mushroom it is, also interested in hearing what it is.

Upon investigation it seems it could be Cortinarius Violaceus?

Amazing! Exciting! 3rd psychoactive mushroom I've found.

Just out of curiosity, after looking at edibility of Cortinarius Violaceus they are written as edible but with dangerous look alikes, I haven't been able to find the look alikes in the quick search so far.
Does anyone know what poisonous lookalikes they may be?

One of my ID sites says there's nothing quite like C. violaceus... though I have never heard of anyone really wanting to eat one even if you can.

There are other purple corts for sure- but nothing with all the same characteristics - dark purple, with a rough, velvety look.

http://www.alpental.com/psms/PNWMushrooms/PictorialKey/Cortinarius.htm#violaceus

keep scrolling down on the page and you'll see the other purple corts - (well, at least the ones we have out here) they tend to be more lilac than purple and often white fleshed when cut open.

Thanks magic badger!

I guess the wiki info isn't the best,it says edible, although not really ever eaten with dangerous look alikes.

I guess they are using an abundance of caution on the Wiki page - corts are a very large group and there definitely are Cortinarius species that contain deadly poison -like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cortinarius_rubellus -  better safe than sorry kind of thing...

--------------------
Disclaimer - I'm just a hobbyist and cannot absolutely guarantee any ID offered. I'm most familiar with the species found in the Pacific Northwest - those found in other parts of the world may vary considerably, so always do your own research to find out what grows in your area and what lookalikes you need to be aware of. Understand that many mushroom species cannot be 100% reliably identified by photographs alone, even by an expert, so it may not be possible to go beyond suggesting a probable genus.

Yeah, probably better for the masses I presume.
