B+ First Pins Ever - Fuzzy Caps - Help Please
    #26159470 -

Rejoice with me folks... I got my first pins ever!!! Shit I have never eaten shrooms before and I’m stoked!!!

I have a quick question for those in the know.

It’s hard to see on the pict because the camera kept focusing on the casing but it looks like most of the pins have a very light fuzziness to them. Is this normal for B+ or cubes in general. I had the tubs way to dry over the weekend and the 100% coarse verm casing dried out. 2 days ago I just took them outside on the patio and put the hose sprayer on mist and did a quick mist and could tell the verm was soaked but the water didn’t pool. I actually thought that I lost them so this was a last ditch effort to save them. I am really glad I did it.

2 days ago I set my tubs up to get almost no FAE and the walls are dripping right now and the temps are about 76 degrees.

Ok. Please see the photo and let me know if this is normal or what to do to correct it if. I’m thinking I might need more FAE but I don’t know shit yet.

Thanks for your help in advance folks.

That looks ok.  I'm working with B+ currently, and have seen that before.  You will probbly find the fuzz goes away as they mature.  They certainly look healthy.  It isn't a contamination or mold.

My B+ was having some weird fuzziness of mycelium near the base, but it seems to have diminshed by adding a couple holes in the tub.

good luck! How are you growing them? I looks like vermiculite--it's PF cakes?

That "fuzz on the caps" appears to remnants of the universal veil to me.

It’s just a 1/2 pound of rye seed spawn to 9 cups coco with a 100% coarse verm casing. I got them in 9x13 sterilize food tubs.

Thanks for the help. I lived in WI for 10 years. God I miss the friday night fish frys and custard stands.

I just returned from several years on Long Island.  For a WI farm kid, living just 20 miles from NYC was a trip!  EVERYTHING tears the wallet off your ass.  A date?  You drop $250.  $35 just to get to the date, $16 cocktails...

It was good to move home.  The Friday fish is awesome, I have to say.

Gees that’s a bunch of dough for a date. Never been around that before. I was just south of Milwaukee for 7 years and near Fond du Lac for 3 years. Plan on making a trip back that way in the spring to connect with old friends and my ex wife. Got a friend in Mad Town that taught me to extract mescaline from the San Pedro cactus. It was a long chemical process but much better than drinking San Pedro tea. YUCK!

You know what’s weird. I rubbed this fuzz off one of the mushroom that looks like it’s really tall and it isnt thick like it appears in the photo. It’s a very thin dust and the caps are deforming underneath. Kinda like like pointy spots that protrude from the cap like a blister.

I have so much to learn. It’s time for bed.

I thnk thats a mutation caused by residual cleaning residue.

Thanks for the reply Timbo. I never used any cleaning supplies. They have been in tubs there whole life and have come up in the past 2 days with no exposure to room air until lest night. I did moisten the casing 3 days ago from the water hose on a mist setting. Maybe it’s something in my well water that they are pulling from in the casing.

Who knows?

Whatever it is it’s not stunting their growth. I went to bed 6 hours ago and they are noticeably bigger now.

I believe the mutation you're seeing is sometimes referred to as hairlip. It usually indicates poor environmental conditions, specifically not enough FAE.
You did say in the original post that they get no FAE and you have concerns.
Get them some air.
Also, it probably wasn't as dry as you thought in the first place.

Thanks for the reply El Chupa. I will make sure they get more FAE in that tub and see if they pull out of it. The biggest pins (maybe a dozen) barely have any signs at all. It’s the newer smaller ones that exhibit this trait.

Just to clarify the one I'm referring to is the one you pointed out farthest on the left in the last pic. At about the 2 o clock position the cap looks like it's talking out of the side of it's face.
But yes the white shit just looks like tissue from universal veil.

Also a lack of fresh air would cause uneven pinning and a overall lack of pin formation, so crappier yields.

Totally normal with this strain, seen it personally as well as on other grow accounts I follow on instagram...Seems to be a more common in B+ Strains sourced from "S...W..." I'm sure you can fill in the blanks if you look at the sponsors. I don't know what causes it to happen just know it's a common occurrence in that strain not much to worry about the final product will be ok.

Got it. This is my first pin set so I am glad to get just one pin! LOL
I can count a few dozen in each of my 9x13 tubs.l and they are still breaking through.

The fresh air is for evaporation, right? I seen the SFF Shoebox Tek and they get hardly any FAE and fruit nicely.

Thanks for the reply. Everybody seems to be telling me the same thing in different ways. Don’t worry, every thing is ok. This is my first pin set so I am like a mother hen brooding over her chicks. :-)

I use M........DotCom for spores at the moment. I only saw one weird thing from my B+ syringe. One bag of rye seeds had a fuzzy/cottony type of mycelium and the other bag of rye seeds had a wicked strong rhizomy/oyster shell type mycelium. The bag with the cottony mycelium got the green meanie and now it’s resting under a pine tree outside in the forest with a 1/2 inch layer of top soil over it.

The bag of seeds with the strong mycelium colonized quickly even at a 1:8 spawn ratio. I use only coco for my substrate. These are the ones that are fruiting now.

Thanks again for the info on the B+. Every reply I get is bringing my stress levels down about 10%.
