How to ruin a PC
    #26157140 -

I just bought a new, second Presto 23qt for $65 (smokin' deal!) on OfferUp so I can expand my enterprise. Last night I ran both with a 5lb spawn bag in each. At the end of the cycle, I notice the new one is sitting at an angle, the bottom is bulged out.

I've followed the exact same process on the same high burner many times with my older PC, except with jars. This was my first time with bags, and it didn't occur to me the bag might break the bag, spill the grains, soak up the water, and effectively cause it to run dry, thus warping the bottom.

Pretty sure the high burner was the main cause, because my other PC was on a medium burner and was fine. Fuck I feel so stupid. I should have thought of this. Hopefully my stupidity will help someone else avoid the same mistake.

It shouldn't happen again, though. I decided to bite the bullet and just ordered an AA 75x.

Another fine example of why one should read the manual and pay attention in the kitchen. Bummer man, I warped one once and  "pitted" two more to death so far. Another is pitted, but still rockin and my newest one gets well cleaned after use meow.

Wasn't there a thingy on the bottom of the PC to keep the bag a little above the surface?

Pitted?  How does that happen?

Basically with poor maintenance. It's called galvanic corrosion. It helps to use distilled water, but most importantly you need to properly empty and clean your unit immediately after each use.

Yeah, I read it. But this is one of those things where you read it, "know" it, then you do it wrong anyway, then you remember what you already "knew"

Yeah, I had 4oz Mason jars on bottom, then the trivet, then the bag. Still broke :frown:.

Did you preseal the bag? Did you put 3qt of water in the PC? What kind of bag did you use? Did you not monitor your pressure guage and steam release rate during your cycle?

No preseal, just folded with a tyvek sleeve. I put about 3.5qts water. It's a filter bag from Shroom Supply. I monitored it, noticed a burning smell and pressure dropped from ~19psi to just above 15psi. In hindsight, that was a huge clue slapping me in the face to turn it off. But I'm an idiot. And doesn't help that I've been staying up way too late every night building up my farm, I'm totally sleep deprived, and my judgment is impaired.

Do you know how many BTU your burner is?

No, it's just the biggest burner on my kitchen stove. But it doesn't even matter, my AA75x arrives next week and I'll never have to worry about it again

Operator error
Even on an overpowered burner that they say not to use it's hard to mess up if you don't overdo the flame.

See people do something wrong break their presto say they need an AA scary thought that it's in effort to do the same errors without the problems.

Actually, I know it's not going to eliminate the need to think. It's really because while I was running two PCs, I realized:
1. I have no room on my stove to do anything else. Not even a small pot to cook agar while grains are sterilizing. Getting an AA will free up valuable stove space.
2. The AA is 27qt, allowing me to run more grain at once. I need assloads of grain.
