It's long overdue but I just finally got my first VPN, got a 3 year subscription with CyberGhost.

Anybody have any other hints to just overall be a safer person on the internet.

Anyone on here have anything to say about CyberGhost lmk or not

How to be safe on the internet step 1: Throw away all your devices, never go on the internet.
All other means are just levels of safety.
A VPN is a good start. So is browsing everywhere using SSL (https).

The normal unsecured internet is basically like walking around a city where at every intersection people shout out exactly where they are from, where they are going and what they are going to do there; while everyone else acts very polite like they didn’t hear if it was none of their business.  A VPN and SSL connection make it so at least you aren’t shouting exactly where you are from and what you’re doing to every server your connection meets.

The next level up is TOR.  While still not 100% secure, browsing using TOR or Onion routing, that locks your data up multiple times on its trip. More secure but the process and network take time so you pay for it in sometimes painfully slow internet speeds.  It can still be broken if someone with resources like a gov agency focuses in on you specifically over some time.

But of course security generally dies with the user.  All measure of internet security won’t prevent user error, or human stupidity.

Dude: “Yo here’s a bunch of my personal details and evidence of major criminal activity, hit me up if you want to crime too!”
FBI: “Yes, we would like to crime, please push yes on your device to instal our criming app”
Dude: “Woah it’s free! Yes I’ll grant it root access!”

wont a vpn protect you from your employer paying your ISP for your browsing history?
