Any techy nerds in the house?
    #26156069 -

Short and sweet is what I always say.

My modem and router are downstairs. I'm using a cable wire for the nets.

I want the internet's in my room and there's a cable outlet. What can I buy or do to get the nets without losing speeds?

Does it need to be downstairs for other things to work? I'd just move the router/modem in your room with the cable outlet if not.

If you do need it where it is, you'll probably want a MoCA adapter. Not too cheap, but there will be no slow down and it's a non-gamble vs buying a WiFi extender and discovering it doesn't reach your top floor anyway.

What's the model of your modem?

The main stuff is downstairs. I want to run internet upstairs in my room so I can hardwire my Nvidia shield. I know I can use wifi, but I try not to use it if I don't have too.

Ill get the mod of both.

Thanks by the way

With that modem (and with most modems) you would need two MoCA adapters. Some have them built in meaning you would only need one instead of two, but it's not common.

So to do what you're wanting to do you'll need two MoCA adapters.

^Something like that, but two of them. One for downstairs, one for the room you're wanting to hook up in.

Why one for the downstairs?

Because your modem does not take the signal and put it back over the coaxial line in your home, so you need two adapters. The downstairs one to receive the coax, route your internet through the modem into the router, router back into the adapter, which would then push it through all the coaxial lines in your home.

Basically you can't have two modems on the same line (without your cable company charging you for a second line), this device puts the internet signal throughout your coax network rather than through ethernet cables which most houses don't have inside the walls to each room.

You could try replacing the coax cable with an ethernet cable. Coax can be a bit stiff, but sometimes you can attach an ethernet cable to one end of the coax and then pull the ethernet through at the other end of the coax to replace the coax with ethernet. It's the cheapest option and hassle-free if you can get the cable through. Alternatively route a new ethernet cable from downstairs to upstairs. How easy or difficult it is depends on the house.

What about running a 100ft ethernet CAT5 to the upstairs to a ethernet Hub?

You can get routers that have a coax port

They would need a modem on board to get internet though. Since he already has a modem connected downstairs, he needs to move the demodulated signal upstairs without adding an additional modem.
